TMW: Bologna make €10m decision on Saelemaekers but Milan eye exchange deal

By Oliver Fisher -

Bologna have booked their place in the Champions League for the first time in their history, and thus they can start to make some decisions regarding the squad ahead of the summer.

According to what is being reported by TMW, Bologna’s maiden campaign in the UCL means they have a bit of extra budget to work with given the rich prize money that it brings, and they will use that to strengthen the team.

However, it is also useless to deny that many of their big names are in the sights of other clubs after such a surprisingly good season. Nonetheless, Sartori and his team will work on making sure that the Rossoblu are well equipped.

To this effect, the permanent signing of Alexis Saelemaekers by Bologna is practically a given, given that in recent weeks he has given more guarantees from a fitness point of view and has chipped in with important contributions.

The deal with Milan includes a €10m option to buy, and a contract until 2028 is already ready for the Belgian. It is likely that the Rossoneri will try to use him as a bargaining chip in the negotiation for striker Joshua Zirkzee, as per the source.

  1. sell Salad 10m, he’s young who originally a RB who can play RW & LW too then buy Emerson (Tottenham flop) 30m, it’s that a joke

  2. We will “try to use him (Sales) as a bargaining chip”??????

    LOLOLOLO

What “bargaining chip” exactly??? NOTHING to bargain over. Bologna only has to pay the 10M option to buy and he’s theirs. How stupid are some of these journalists really.

Another gem by Furlani. Sales is valued much more than 10M – steal for Bologna.

    Embarrassing

    1. Just speculation here on my side but maybe there is a resale clause that can be removed and maybe add a mil or two on top of the deal thats at least the only thing i can currently think of as a bargaining chip in a Zirkzee deal.
I cant say i give much for the notion of the article either as the negotiation power is with bologna or bayern.

      1. What I feel awkward about here is, they are in the Champions League, if they lose their coach and 2-3 of the starting line up, what was the point?.

I would like to see Motta (he is young and could really make a name for himself) and the players to stay and give the fans a season to remember…… But that is wishful thinking by me I suppose.

Bologna could build on this and became an established to top 6-8 team.

But the 6 sisters will rip them to bits, football is just so shameless at times, the word ‘preservation’ has no use in football or even modern society….

Still well done Bologna (egg on the faces of Roma and Lazio)

        1. A lot of things went their way this season. And contraty to popular belief their success is not only due to Motta or only due to Zirkzee who are alway sinngled out. There were a lot of pieces that fell into place, and that is due to great work of the club management.

If they decide to keep the ball rolling, they can do a lot with the money they collect. That is what building on your success looks like when you’re an up and coming club. And they are decently large city (similar to Florence) to have enough means and ambitions to stay relevant.

I am not worried about them. In fact I am envious of their technical director Giovanni Sartori. He’s been doing wonders at Atalanta for years, just to come to Bologna and instantly have great impact.

        2. To be fair Bologna has as many scudettos (7) as 3 of the 7 sisters combined Napoli , Fiorentina and Lazio. In fact Bologna is a shared 5th most winning serie a team even if they havent wont it for roughly 60 years so year i can share your view Malick even though i would be intrigued to see Motta in Milan as well. Think it will be great for Bologna if they can keep him and the squad intact. Considering that they have qualified for cl im not so sure they are in a dire need to sell and this might be a one time opportunity that wont arise for the next many decades so in their own interest its best for them to build upon what they started instead of dismantling it.

    2. You can include them in a swap deal and knock some 5M off the book price of both. So let’s say both teams agree on Zirkzee price at 60M. Then you report Sale transfer for 5M and Zirkzee transfer for 55M.

That way Bologna will save on resale % they owe to Bayern, which is reporterd to be 50% so they can save few millions.

      1. Thats an option but on the other hand bayern can just pay the 40 mil and then sell him again for more and then earn more compared to what you are suggesting milan and bologna should do so not so sure it will actually work here,
