TMW: 40 games, 50 goal contributions – Sweden star now costs ‘too much’ for Milan

Viktor Gyokeres has been an absolute revelation for Sporting CP this season and the worry for AC Milan is that his asking price is now beyond their reach.

Gyokeres made the jump from the English Championship where he had excelled with Coventry City to the Liga Portugal, and it would be fair to say that he has hit the ground running.

Remarkable numbers

As TMW write, the Swede has 22 goals in 24 league matches played for Sporting at an average of one every 98 minutes. He has five goals in nine games played in the Europa League, at an average of one every 125 minutes.

Added to those are the three goals in two matches played in the Allianz Cup, at an average of one every 52 minutes. He has six goals in four matches played in the Taca de Portugal, at an average of one every 45 minutes.

The grand total is 36 goals out of 39 games played. The average is one every 89 minutes. Adding in the 14 assists he has racked up too, we reached 50 goal contributions is 40 appearances in 2023-24.

The asking price

Gyokeres has been on an upward trajectory to this point, starting with the Brommapojkarna youth team and then being bought by Brighton. He went out on loan. St.Pauli in the German second division, then Swansea in the Championship.

Coventry City took a punt on him and he scored 43 goals in two seasons there, so Sporting CP signed him for €20m and the rest is (recent) history.

Milan have put the Stockholm-born player on their shortlist but the asking price continues to rise in line with his career exploits.

Gyokeres has a clause of €100m, he is liked throughout Europe, and for that reason Sporting want €75m minimum, which is ‘too much’ for the Rossoneri.
