TMW: Lopetegui one step away from West Ham and will not join Milan

By Isak Möller -

Julen Lopetegui has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan since the defeat to Roma on Thursday evening. However, according to a report this evening, the Spaniard will not be the next manager of the Rossoneri.

The Europa League exit was the final nail in the coffin for Stefano Pioli, with Milan expected to choose their next manager in the coming days. Gerry Cardinale is in Milano to watch the derby and he will also meet with the management several times.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Milan’s next manager will not be Julen Lopetegui as the former Sevilla manager is one step away from joining West Ham. The Hammers will part ways with David Moyes and a three-year contract is ready for Lopetegui to sign.

Most Milan fans will likely be relieved by this update as the first rumours of Lopetegui replacing Pioli weren’t exactly met with great excitement. In the meantime, the Rossoneri’s search continues and it’s likely that some candidates haven’t been revealed yet.

Gianluca Di Marzio published a report late last night, highlighting seven candidates for Milan including the likes of Sergio Conceicao and Thomas Tuchel. Only time will tell, but the certainty is that the Rossoneri will have a new manager next season.

  1. The only bad thing about this is that David Moyes will now get added to the SempreMilan roulette wheel of “who to link us with today”.

  2. I’m seeing this from a completely different perspective. I’m ambivalent towards Lopetgui, perhaps slightly uninterested, but the real story here is how our targets are beginning to commit to other projects. Motta is close to Juventus. Say what you will about Lopetegui, he’s better than a lot of the other names. If management moves too slowly, we will be left with even less appealing options.
