As TMW reports, Milan have been keeping an eye on Baumgartner’s performances and their interest increased when he racked up seven goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga this season playing as both a playmaker and a box-to-box midfielder.
His flexibility is perfect for Stefano Pioli and his constantly changing game plans and it is for this reason that Milan were looking at the 23-year-old as a potential replacement for Brahim Diaz, who has returned to Real Madrid.
However, the asking was over €25m and in recent weeks RB Leipzig have made their interest concrete, so now the Austria international is one step away from joining them.
As an alternative, the Rossoneri management are believed to be exploring a deal for Arda Güler of Fenerbahce, who has a release clause of €17.5m.
