TMW: Milan begin formal request procedures for U23 side in Serie C

AC Milan have begun the formal process of trying to get a team registered in Serie C ahead of next season, according to a report.

As TMW recall, Juventus were the first to register an U23 team in the third tier of Italian football back in 2018 and then Atalanta joined last summer, but so far they are the only two clubs to go down that route.

Milan are interested in joining their two rivals and they are currently leading the chase, having already started the formal request process with the Lega Pro.

The Rossoneri second team project has gained strong momentum in the past few weeks, so much so that the other possible candidates at the moment have all been overtaken by Milan’s plans.

According to the information in possession of TMW, in fact, two other clubs that have been moving for some time to set up the second team are Fiorentina and Sassuolo.

From a future perspective, Torino are also ready to join their city rivals, but are completing the structures of the new training complex before taking the step.

To date, Milan are in pole position because there are various parameters involved before registration for Serie C can be confirmed, which were outlined in a recent report.

  1. This could be absolutely critical for development of younger players that are pass the primavera stage. This is still a professional league, despite being the third division. Superb move, and hope we can get this started quickly.

    1. Agreed. Fingers crossed this work.

But there has to be a plan at some stage to bring them into the first team, and that can’t happen if we keep signing players to block them each season.

I honestly can’t see much hope for Carmada because teams generally sign new strikers every season so he’ll always be competing with 3-4 players for 1-2 positions.

This is what they did to Cutrone (who had scored at every level including senior) who they buried under Kalinic, Silva, Higuain and Piatek, none of whom stayed at the club for very long.

for Carmada to stand a chance we would need to identify a short to medium term striker now and stick to it, and then sign a few short term options as cover between now and when Carmada is ready.

Something like a 26-27 year old world beater now and some 30+ experienced strikers to compliment them. But we need to be thinking about Carmada and the rest NOW, not in 5-6 years whilst we’re busy wheeling and dealing.
