TMW: Serie B move on the horizon for Caldara after Milan exit

By Ben Dixon -

It seems that Mattia Caldara will drop a division when joining his next club following the expiration of his AC Milan contract, a report has stated.

After joining Milan in 2018, many would expect him to have seen a decent amount of minutes in Serie A, especially given he is the most expensive player in Milan’s squad at current. After all, more than half a decade would suggest at least a few cameos here and there, even if he was not a prominent member of the Rossoneri’s squad.

However, this has not been the case for the now 30-year-old defender. Instead, his first game in Serie A was also his Diavolo debut, as he took to the field in the 58th minute of the final game of the season against Salernitana.

Recent years have seen him depart on loan or fall to injuries, and this was very much the case last season, where an ankle injury harmed his playing time massively, as he was a victim of the defensive injury crisis.

His next step, understandably, is a move away from the top flight, where he has failed to regularly play and Tuttomercatoweb (via Milan News) have reported that Modena are the club that will take a chance on him on a one-year contract. Given there are no fees to pay due to the expiration of his contract, it allows the defender to move on in the hopes of a fresh start, and a much-needed one at that.

    1. Not at all. He suffered multiple major injuries. Weren’t you watching football at all for the past couple of years. The type of fools supporting our club these days is shocking.

  1. The type of fools that think they smarter than others is also shocking . Dont you remember when he recover from his injuries pioli not giving him chance and minutes at all .

    1. He was injured from start of the season until mid-April.

A player that back from that kind of absence need a lot of time to get form after coming back from injury. And when he come back, the injury crisis for centre backs already passed and iirc almost all CB bar Kalulu is ready to play.

He was on the last year of the contract, big wages, and the management likely already made it clear to insider that they won’t renew his contract. He no longer has future at Milan.

So why should Pioli play him?
