Tomori ‘happy and proud’ to prove doubters wrong: “Everyone said Milan wouldn’t win” – video

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori was left feeling ‘happy and proud’ after a draw was obtained against Napoli to secure qualification for the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Milan booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since the 2006-07 season as they drew 1-1 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory.

Tomori was interviewed by Milan TV after the game to try and digest what is another big step forward for the club.

“We are happy to be in the semi-final. After three games we only conceded one goal against this Napoli side, and it is difficult. We are happy and proud. We played well, on counter-attacks we were always dangerous and we defended well, but we are tired (laughs),” he said.

“It was difficult, the atmosphere was very intense. There was pressure because we knew that the game before they had pressed. We all played for the team, with intensity. We are happy.

“Before the two matches against Napoli everyone said that Milan wouldn’t win, but we know our qualities. If we go with the same attitude, we can win with any team, but we have to be be careful. We have faith and we are happy.

“When we train we want to be at our best, even on the pitch. We know very well that the things we do at Milanello happen on the pitch. We give our best for the coach, and when we are on the pitch we have to be ready.

“Opponent? I don’t know. Tomorrow I’ll watch the game calmly and I can’t wait to play the semi-final.”
