AC Milan would consider selling Fikayo Tomori for the right price, a report has claimed, with Geoffrey Moncada studying potential replacements.
In an interview with ITV released earlier in the week, Tomori provided a reflection on his time at Milan and he labelled it the ‘best thing he ever did’, showing he has zero regrets about swapping London for Lombardy.
Nonetheless, Calciomercato.com writes how chapters always have a beginning and an end. Tomori’s at Milan was intense, with great joys such as the Scudetto won in 2021-22 and some more recent disappointments in terms of form.
In recent weeks, the English defender has lost his starting place and this new situation requires some evaluations for the future. Tomori could say goodbye at the end of the season to return to the Premier League and perhaps further his England aspirations.
Milan’s scouting activity has brought to Moncada’s attention several profiles that could be suitable for Fonseca in the event of Tomori’s farewell. Among the favourites is certainly Cristhian Mosquera of Valencia, who is seen as being physically robust but good in the build-up phase.
Another name that Milan is considering is Bafodé Diakité of Lille. The 23-year-old has already worked with Fonseca and the good relationship between the clubs – as seen with the Rafael Leao, Tiago Djalo and Mike Maignan deals – could help the negotiations.
Then there is Ousmane Diomande of Sporting CP, an Ivorian defender who is just 21 years of age. He has been watched several times by Rossoneri scouts in the last two years and he is considered to have big potential. The issue is that the Portuguese side want €35m to sell.
Instead of those guys get singo he’s amazing even when he’s team concedes 3 goals he still gets a good rating
These two look at least 30 years old.
Diamonde is class
I think that Milan will not sell Tomori, for some small fee.
If they didn’t give Thiaw for less, Tomori will be quality Milan rotation player.
For Tomori there is only need for 2 good games in a row to become starter.
England aspirations lol. He has never been of starter material for the England national team and will never be. He has finished peaking and is now in the decline stage. Another 2-3 years in Europe and then Saudi Pro League.
Well neither is or was Harry Maguire and still he has been a steady fixture for them in the last 7 years so surely in theory Tomori could be that as well.
To be fair to McGuire, he plays well for England. Not sure about his club form.
Reminds me of Klose back in the day…club form nada yet for Germany he used to ball out
From the top of my head then the matches I’ve seen with Maguire for either national team or club hasn’t really impressed much and Klose actually did pretty well both in club and national team in my view so not really sure about the comparison.
Hmm. Gabbia and Thiaw seem to be our 1st choice pair now, and Pavlo. They are all still relatively young. We should bring in either a very experienced CB with some winning pedigree (~30 y/o) to bring experience and leadership, and who will be OK with being on the bench, or a young CB (18-20 y/o) who will be learning from those a few years ahead. Ideally this player will be Italian in either scenario.
And I ought to have said: that 18-20 y/o CB could come from the academy. Someone like Bartesaghi should be promoted to the 1st team full time and be committed to learning the CB, as his height lends itself to this position vs LB.
Bartesaghi is not good enough. He isn’t doing good even in Seria C. We should have done that with Simic.
who is Bafodé Diakité & Ousmane Diomande?
so there’s no better Italian (who’s famous in defence) than this two?
is Ballo-Toure & Chuck is not enough (burden)?
i’m not racist but i don’t remember any African play good w/ us after Weah (maybe only Kessie),
if this ware in 90’s i think Moncada will sell Maldini & stick w/ Teribo West
This is interesting observation.
As far as non-Italian goes, IMHO, African players tend to do well in highly physical league like EPL, while South American players tend to do well in a more tactical league like Serie-A. However, having said that, the year we won Serie-A, our midfield backbone was actually African players – Kessie, Bennacer and Brahim.
But the really, really legendary African players who have made their marks in Serie A are few. On top of my head, I could only recall Weah, Eto’o and most recently Osimhen, and Osimhen isn’t even proven at the biggest stage yet. Salah might have been a better shout, but he wasn’t one of the world’s best yet during his time in here.
