Tomori thrilled with clean sheet against Napoli but insists Milan ‘need to do more’

By Oliver Fisher -

Fikayo Tomori revealed his happiness that AC Milan were able to get a win and a clean sheet against Napoli, but insisted that the team ‘need to do more’.

Olivier Giroud got the only goal of the game for Milan in their 1-0 victory at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, popping up in the right place at the right time to net early in the second half and to prove once again that he is a talisman for the big moments.

In truth though it is the centre-back pairing of Fikayo Tomori and Pierre Kalulu – who are 24 and 21 respectively – that is gaining a lot of praise from the fans and rightly so after they kept Victor Osimhen and his supporting cast quiet.

Tomori now looks back to hi best after recovering from minor surgery and he spoke to DAZN to reflect on what is a huge three points in the scheme of the season, with his comments relayed by MilanNews and translated below.

Do you feel fundamental for the way Milan defend?

“Yes sure. I like to play with a high line.”

On the dressing room…

“We are happy with this victory, the dressing room is very happy. We have ten games to play. Tonight it was a difficult match and we won, but we need to do more.”

How much can you improve?

“There is margin. We are fully focused on our game and every day in training we try to play with an idea and then we try to bring it onto the pitch. There are still 10 games, tonight it was important and three very important points. We must continue.”

Who is the striker in Serie A who has put you in the most difficulties?

“There are many difficult forwards to face like Osimhen, Lautaro, Dzeko… There are many. But when I play with Romagnoli, Simon or Pierre we think about our game and to cancel the other teams and their threats.”
