Tonali reflects on emotional return: “I cannot disguise my passion for Milan”

By Oliver Fisher -

Sandro Tonali has revealed that returning to AC Milan and getting an ovation for the fans is something that he ‘will remember forever’.

Tonali got a great reception from the Milan fans as he came out to warm up as he received applause and even had some songs dedicated to him, and it will have been a strange feeling for him returning to not only his former club but the team he grew up supporting.

Tonali was back at San Siro for the first time since his exit and he spoke to Sky Italia after the game, which was ultimately a hard-fought point for Newcastle in a game that they were second best in throughout.

“I will bring this embrace of San Siro with me for a very long time. It was something I will remember forever. You expect it to be wonderful, but when you are there, it’s different,” he said (via TMW).

“The day of the game passed by so quickly, but I tried to enjoy every single minute. I cannot disguise my passion for Milan. I didn’t disguise it when I was at Brescia, nor playing for Milan and I won’t now that I am at Newcastle. It would not be possible or desirable to hide this passion.”

Milan had eight shots on target to Newcastle’s one – which came deep into added time – so Tonali’s side will probably feel like they have escaped with a very useful draw. Paris Saint-Germain beat Borussia Dortmund to become early group leaders.

“This is the most complicated group, as all four teams can quality. The objective coming here was to keep a clean sheet and we achieved that.

“I saw a great Milan team, they are difficult to play against and can run from their box to ours with just a couple of through balls.”

  1. Deep down, I think tonali wished we won the match. Tonali has some undeniable love for Milan. Tonali can never be the likes of dollarunma, kessie, and cahanoglu.

    1. Mr Babatunde, as a fellow Yoruba guy and Nigerian, yes love cannot be hidden, it’s a spirit and the spirit in a man is like a smoke, it will surely evoke out…it’s different from obligation and duty to which many people professed! We know those who love Milan they will always sacrifice for it good, Maldini love Milan such that he would rather resign than being a puppet for money sake, Gattusso love Milan such that he gave up his salary when he was fired saying Milan had given him more than he can evwr give, Tonali love Milan such that he didn’t give hia usual passion into the game…we know those who love indedd and in mouth only ( dollarumma, kessie, calhanoglu even pioli)… Ibrahimovic love milan and played all through wiyh steel inserted in his lega to make sure we win the scudetto!… I can go on and on!

  2. SO sick of this Tonali nonsense. He chose to leave and quite frankly, the team is better for it. He was overrated, he is now struggling at Newcastle, and he got bossed by RLC in the game. Sorry, but unless he wants to take less money to come back and be a bench player, I don’t want to hear about it. And I’m sure Newcastle fans don’t want to hear this from him either.
