Tonali gives honest reflection after Milan throw lead away: “We could have managed it better”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali has revealed that he is feeling ‘disappointed’ after the 2-2 draw against Red Star in Belgrade.

The Rossoneri would take the lead twice in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 game, but would twice be pegged back including conceding an injury time equaliser when Red Star were down to 10 men.

A Radovan Pankov own-goal gave Milan the lead but the home side would level from the penalty spot early in the second half after Alessio Romagnoli’s handball.

Milan answered back by winning a spot kick of their own as Theo Hernandez went down before dusting himself off and converting, but it wouldn’t be enough as substitute Milan Pavkov rose highest to score from a corner not long after Red Star had been reduced to ten men.

Tonali spoke to Sky Italia after the game and provided an honest reflection of the game at the Marakana, with his comments transcribed by PianetaMilan.

“It was certainly a game that we are disappointed with because of the way it went. We know we could have closed it and we could have managed it better,” he said.

Looking ahead to the derby, he added: “We will put aside disappointment knowing that 2-2 is a result that can be good for the second leg. Now let’s get our heads in the derby knowing that we are playing it 100%.”
