Tonali says Milan must give 110% in ‘fundamental’ game against Roma

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the important clash between AC Milan and Roma this evening, Sandro Tonali spoke to the media about the Rossoneri’s situation. Indeed, it’s a very interesting game for the top-four race.

Milan leapfrogged Roma last week as they managed to beat Lecce, while the Giallorossi lost 3-1 to Atalanta. However, they remain on the same points (56) and thus tonight’s game will be crucial for both of them in the top-four race.

Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, Tonali admitted that it’s a big chance for Milan given the situation in the standings. He also shared an update on how the squad is feeling in these intense times.

On the game…

“We have to play it as we have prepared it, giving 110% in defence and attack. We have to stay in the game without giving up.”

On the position in the standings with Roma…

“We have the same points and today we have the chance to take a step forward. We know how important this game is.”

How’s the team doing?

“We’re fine and we always have been. Today is a fundamental match for everyone, both players and staff.”

On the first leg…

“The first leg was the start of a difficult moment, but we came out of it as a great team. We remember every match of that period well. But we remember those last 5 minutes against Roma especially well…”

Tonali plays from start along with Rade Krunic in the midfield tandem, with Ismael Bennacer keeping his spot a bit further up in the attacking trio. In order to win, Milan will need a strong performance from these three.
