GdS: Tonali, Okafor, Demiral and Donnarumma – Milan mentioned in Juventus documents

By Oliver Fisher -

More information continues to emerge regarding the chaos surrounding Juventus at the moment, and AC Milan’s name has been mentioned as part of it.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) report that prosecutors have acquired all the papers and documents to conduct their investigation, and as part of that several curiosities have emerged regarding their history in the transfer market.

There was a talk of a possible exchange between Juve and Manchester United, with Donny van de Beek coming to Torino and Weston McKennie moving to England, which could have taken place in August 2021.

Milan come into play amid talk of the agent Giuffrida who was expected to bring an offer from the Rossoneri for his client Merih Demiral, a centre-back that the Diavolo wanted but who later ended up at Atalanta.

There was also talk about how the Bianconeri were actively following Gianluigi Donnarumma who ended up joining PSG on a free transfer in 2021.

The names of Sandro Tonali and Noah Okafor were marked in their notebooks too, the former a target that ended up joining his boyhood club Milan and the latter being monitored since his time at Basel, with the Swiss forward now a Rossoneri target.

  1. Setting club rivalries aside, this case about player valuation is bogus. Case law has shown in the past that it’s not a credible case and judges have thrown out these cases very early. This happened with Napoli (I believe with the Oshimen deal as well as with Anguissa). They were alleged to “over value” Oshimen only to eventually turn out that he may have been undervalued based on what we’re seeing now; there was also the issue of overvaluation of the youth players in the deal but I’ll leave that out for now. The point is value is something a club is willing to pay. It is literally a market mechanism. If you’re not willing to pay a certain price then the another club might. Neymar was valued at 220m, is that a fair value? Who knows? Maybe he brings fame and followers to the club which the club values to grow their brand. Tonali can be $20m, 50m or one dollar. It really is just a matter of what the market is willing to pay.

Juve’s issue is with fraud relating to wages (when they showed on the books that they paid wages but in the background kept it for themselves). That’s a whole other issue
