After conceding the opener in the second half, Milan managed to work their way back and eventually scored the equaliser against Nice. Sandro Tonali was one of the players that played a good chunk and he should be satisfied.
The former Brescia man struggled a bit in the first half, losing the ball on a couple of occasions, but he looked better in the second half. All in all, a solid display, and since he was the only natural deep-lying midfielder available, he was needed.
Speaking to MilanTV after the game (see video below), Tonali was asked about the game and how it worked out for Milan. He also shared his thoughts on the new signings, namely Mike Maignan, Fode Ballo-Toure and Olivier Giroud.
“The tempo of the game helps us all gain match fitness, we did well with very high intensity. Playing games like this one is good for us, especially with the heat and the fans. Hopefully, San Siro can be like this as well.
“We are AC Milan so we can’t adjust to the opponent. Regardless of who we are playing, we must play in the way we know how to. We shouldn’t be different against important and strong teams like Nice.
“Giroud, Maignan and Ballo-Toure have settled in very well. They were helped by the fact that we have a lot of French-speaking players. We always welcome new teammates with open arms, so we’re happy,” he concluded.
Ismael Bennacer is currently unavailable due to a positive COVID-19 test so we will most likely see Franck Kessie (if he feels fit enough) and Tonali in the tandem vs. Valencia. That game will take place on Wednesday evening.
