Tonali stretchered off during Albania-Italy but Mancini provides reassuring update

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali seems to be on the mend after suffering a knock to the head during Italy’s friendly win over Albania.

Tonali was jumping for an aerial ball and seemed to roll around the back of his opponent before landing awkwardly on his top half. He was clearly in a great deal of pain and was stretchered off the field.

However, Tonali’s condition doesn’t seem to be causing particular concern for the national team staff as Mancini spoke to Rai Sport after the game and gave an update on how he is feeling.

“How is he? He took quite a hit but he was conscious and I hope to get him back soon,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).

Meanwhile, Peppe Di Stefano’s update to Sky Sport confirmed that Tonali is feeling ‘better’. In the final minutes of the first half he fell after an aerial collision and hit his head – not his neck and not even his shoulder – and while he never passed out, his head hurt a lot.

Tonali went for instrumental tests in a private clinic, but is feeling better despite the fact he has a severe headache. As Mancini said, he should return to the national team camp but it cannot be excluded that he has played his last game of 2022.
