Torino manager admits team is ‘incomplete’ while Milan are built ‘for the Scudetto’

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will be up against Torino this evening for their first game in the 2024-25 season of Serie A. Speaking to the media yesterday, Il Toro’s manager Paolo Vanoli admitted that the Rossoneri are much further ahead compared to his team.

Torino parted ways with Ivan Juric at the start of the summer and hired Vanoli as his replacement, poaching him from the newly promoted Venezia. However, the mercato is yet to take off for Il Toro and many reinforcements are missing.

Speaking at the press conference yesterday, as cited by MilanNews, Vanoli was asked about the state of his Torino side and the difference with Milan. He admitted that reinforcements are needed and that tonight’s clash will be very difficult.

How is your Torino coming along?

“It’s at the point I expected, it’s a growing process. And, like all processes, there will be ups and downs. I’m not afraid, I know it takes patience that sometimes you don’t have. As for commitment, we’re on the right track.”

It will be a baptism of fire against Milan…

“They are all important, they are built to fight for the Scudetto. I saw them in the Trofeo Berlusconi, we will need maximum attention.”

How complete is Torino at the moment?

“We know that this team is incomplete. I prefer to be patient and make targeted signings, without rushing. The Premier League has the advantage over everyone. I want to complete the squad, for me there are 20-22 players: a competitive squad is needed, we are working on it.”

What kind of Torino do you expect at San Siro?

“I don’t put pressure on my Toro, but I want to see the building block of growth. We’re facing a great team, which will also challenge you for values and sacrifices. If we think of going to San Siro and playing great football for 90 minutes, it’s just a dream. We have to understand that there will be more games and more moments, we will have to manage them with humility,” he stated.

The game is scheduled for 20:45 CEST and at half-time, Youssouf Fofana will be presented to the fans at San Siro. The Frenchman’s arrival has completed the squad but he won’t be ready until the next game at the earliest.

  1. Inter are still title favorites, but I think if we add Chiesa in this team will be equal, on paper at least. In the end its all down to Fonseca and how he performs.

    1. I personally think that we are definitely scudetto ready and Chiesa wouldn’t be that good for the team especially if we need to trade saelemaekers for him.

      1. Salamakers had good season last year, Chiesa had a better season tho, despite limited playing time. This players are not even close in term of quality.

    2. U can’t buy a rejected chiesa.juventus is not foolish to have rejected chiesa, what they saw,U didn’t see it.Dont talk about bringing a player simply because he is an Italian. Chiesa has nothing to offer,if he has,JUVENTUS wouldn’t have rejected him. WHO DOESN’T WANT SUCESS?

      1. Thats a very simplistic thinking. Players can be rejected for many causes, not just how good they are. Juve did offer Chiesa to stay, he didnt wanted to, which resulted in falling off in their relationship. Dybala was simmilar and he went in Roma and had better numbers than Leao.

    3. We need another #9 IMO.

One injury to Morata or simply just fatigue and we have to rely on Jovic – who is not a true #9 – which is what the system requires. Jovic is a second striker in a 2 striker system – something we do not currently play. Okafor is not a true #9 either. Carmada is so young and shouldn’t be rushed. So we are thin at the most important position on the pitch and could use another true #9. We are in big trouble if we are forced to have Jovic leading the line for an extended period of time.

I cannot see us getting Chiesa (although it would be nice esp at 15M) as he would have to take a pay cut and that would mean Chiesa or Chukuweze sits the bench. Neither player would be comfortable with that. Salad seems agreeable coming off the bench and/or playing in any role given to him.

      1. Jovic play well as number 9 in frankfurt supporting by winger rebic and haller. Okafor perform better as CF rather than LW .
