Totti reveals Berlusconi ‘did everything’ to try sign him for Milan: “He will forever be the No.1”

By Oliver Fisher -

The tributes to Silvio Berlusconi continue to flood in, and Roma icon Francesco Totti has revealed that he tried to bring him to AC Milan.

The former Milan owner and prime minister passed away in hospital aged 86 yesterday. We attempted to convey what he meant to Milan in a feature, while we also picked out 10 of his best quotes as well as the best 11 players of his tenure.

It seems that everyone connected to calcio has a story about Berlusconi be it his outlandish thoughts on football itself or something to do with Milan, and Totti is not exempt from this list.

The Roma legend spent his entire career at the Stadio Olimpico and he rejected a lot of different offers in order to remain at his boyhood club, while he revealed to Sky that Milan were among the teams who wanted him.

“He was a funny person. He did everything to bring me to Milan, but after my journey with Roma, it was difficult for me to part ways with my club,” he said (via FootballItalia).

“I will thank him forever. He will forever be the No.1 for me, on and off the pitch. He had everything to win.”

  1. There was no way Totti was going to leave Roma but you have to hand it to Silvio for trying. I’ll always be thankful for him forcing Capello to play Savicevic otherwise he was about to leave. A true great.

  2. Oh boy, it would have been really amazing to see Totti wearing the Rossoneri shirt… but I fully understand why he never signed with us, and I respect his choice a lot.
