Totti praises Milan for hiring ‘competent’ Maldini and aims jab at Roma

Paolo Maldini has been heavily praised for his work at AC Milan, especially in the last few weeks, as the 19th Scudetto in the club’s history was secured. Roma legend Francesco Totti is the latest to praise the 53-year-old.

Along with sporting director Ricky Massara, Maldini has made several great decisions since returning to the club in his heart four years ago. Above all, though, he has made the importance of the red and black shirt very clear.

Speaking to Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, Maldini’s former national teammate Totti was asked about Milan’s success as of late. He also aimed a jab at Roma, or so it seems, based on his own background.

“In football, there must be competent former players who know about football. Giving Paolo Maldini a role in the club, where he played for 30 years, was always going to be an advantage for Milan,” he stated.

Totti was hired by Roma as a club director after his retirement but it didn’t end well. He publicly criticised the current owner, James Pallotta, for not involving him in the decisions upon announcing his resignation.

In addition to Totti’s departure, the one of Daniele De Rossi also angered the fans and it became pretty clear that the club owners wanted to get rid of the ‘Romans’ in the team. A list that also included Alessandro Florenzi.
