L’Equipe: ‘Speak out’ – Toulouse fan group unhappy with silence from RedBird Capital

Amid the climate of protest at AC Milan, some concerns have been raised about another club RedBird Capital are involved in, namely Toulouse.

L’Equipe reports that many Toulouse supporters were surprised by the sudden departure of Damien Comolli on Wednesday. Resigning from his position as president, the 53-year-old manager left the club in an unstable situation, with no real leader on board.

Since the acquisition of TFC in the summer of 2020 by the American investment fund RedBird Capital Partners, he was the one who embodied the project, the one who took care of everything.

After paying tribute to him and highlighting his record, Toulouse supporters’ associations – led by the Indians Tolosa ultras – wanted to challenge the majority shareholder.

A statement they published on social media reads: “We believe it is essential that the club’s owner, RedBird Capital, finally speak out. Today, Toulouse FC has neither a president, nor a general manager, nor an identified spokesperson to represent our colours.”

They conclude: “Now is the time to build, not retreat. The silence cannot continue.” In five years, Gerry Cardinale, head of the New York investment firm that also owns the majority stake in AC Milan, has rarely spoken publicly about Toulouse.

Last week, RedBird brought up 1000 days at the helm of Milan. In a feature we analysed the work they have done (or lack of, in some cases) in each sector they are responsible for.
