Earlier this week, Strahinja Pavlovic was announced as a new AC Milan player after tiring negotiations with RB Salzburg. In the end, the Rossoneri managed to get a very good deal, making him the sixth most expensive centre-back signing in the club’s history.
Milan had been working on the deal since the start of the summer and after obtaining the player’s go-ahead, they began the negotiations with RB Salzburg. An agreement was eventually reached at €18m plus an additional €2m in bonuses, but it took some time.
As highlighted by Transfermarkt, this is the sixth most expensive centre-back signing in Milan’s history, with Leonardo Bonucci topping the list at €42m. In second place, we find the flop Mattia Caldara at €37.7m, but fortunately the rest of the list gets a bit better.
Alessandro Nesta is the most notable one in fourth place at €31m, which was a lot of money back when he made the move from Lazio. Alessio Romagnoli was another good signing as he served the club well for many years, eventually leaving on a free transfer. You can see the full list of centre-backs in the image below.

damn, we really don’t spend in CB, except for 2 mistakes at the top we do good business
As well as Caldara and Bonucci, Musacchio, Duarte, Laursen, Zapata were also flops – that’s half the list.
Zapata was not flop. Maybe not starter material but in no way a flop.
He was a super flop..one of the worst cbs we had in the last 10 years and for some ungodly reason he was a starter
Not true at all man.
Most successful: Nesta
Best piece of business: Silva
Biggest Bargain: stam.
Most underrated: Kaladze
Most overpriced: Caldara
Biggest flop: Bonnucci
Biggest positive surprise: Tomori
Swing and a miss: Duarte
Then Zapata, Laursen, Romagnoli and Mussacchio all did good work for thr club, showed pretty solid loyalty and values, but never quite delivered at the highest level. Few of them were expected to, Zapata got more playtime Han he was supposed to, but none of those 4 bother me being in the top 12.
well the only thing this chat thought milan so far is, only Lazio sold the best CB to us in Seria A.
hope we learn from the stat
Pavlovic really is a bargain. When you adjust these numbers for inflation, an even bigger bargain.
He really is
True man.
Pavlovic is the best player in the history of football and rumours say he can even fly.
Yeah I saw that it is limited to only days that don’t end in “y”.
How do you say the weeks in Italian?
How can Tomori positive surprise for his price
Another bust….😂😂😂
I am interested in seeing how the injury bug hits this year. I would expect to hat the 2nd international break in October will be pivotal you the team’s success. Will Gabbia go back out on loan? Will Kalulu spend more time at RB?
Had we just kept two of these as a pair for more than one season…
We were forced to sell Thiago Silva but we ended up spending more than his €42m on numerous replacements.
Thiago Silva and, say, Romagnoli once he joined could’ve been our CBs for 5-6-7 seasons.
