GdS: Trincao, Reyna and more – how Milan’s mercato plans could change with Conceicao

Sergio Conceiçao has been officially named as the new head coach of AC Milan, and that could well change the transfer plans in view of the January window.

According to what is being reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) this morning, there are a few question marks about the squad that Conceicao will aim to answer in the coming days before telling the management his plans.

The defence

Milan initially found themselves fragile in defence to start the season but have slowly regained solidity. Of course you can always strengthen, but in this case it will depend on other choices such as whether Fikayo Tomori is seen as more of a resource, as well as Strahinja Pavlovic.

A Portuguese-branded Milan could emerge though, and in this since Antonio Silva of Benfica could become a target. The 21-year-old centre-back wants to leave Lisbon, as his agent Jorge Mendes (also Conceicao’s agent) made clear, promising him to Juve at a high price.

The Bianconeri are ahead, but market scenarios change quickly and if the Rossoneri were to go in for him then things could rapidly alter. A situation to monitor.

Hunt for goals

There are some doubts about Milan’s attack too, in particular Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze. Both have not offered sufficient guarantees this season and one of the two could free up a space.

Mendes could then work to fill that gap with Francisco Trincao, one of the brightest talents in his age group, but without having exploded yet. After being at Barcelona he went to Wolverhampton and then in 2022 to Sporting CP.

At 25 years of age the feeling is that the Portuguese forward has once again reached a point where he is ready to take off, with six goals this season for Sporting in 27 games played. The right winger is valued at €25m.

The talents

If we return to Milan’s modus operandi of signing talents to develop then Giovanni Reyna could be a name. The USA international is versatile and always seems to contribute when he plays for Dortmund, but injuries have held him back.

Ismael Bennacer is trying to get back to 100% after a long injury meanwhile and if he doesn’t give guarantees then Daniel Bragança of Sporting CP could become an option in a €15m deal.

    1. Plus only looking for a Portuguese players and reyna that doesn’t even play even when he’s not injured nice 👍 cheap solutions they will really make us mediocre team and pray to reach top 6 for a chance to play in eu comps

  1. Just don’t sell to a rival lol simple
Keep your core players which include Tomori and don’t isolate anyone
Can’t believe such a mess in 6 months

  2. Ffs all we need is a DM and a backup lb and we’re good. Until summer anyway.

Tho we don’t even know what formation we gonna use now but it’s a safe bet it’s gonna be 4231 unfortunately.

We.also desperately need a quality rb but I highly doubt the management sees that.

      1. We don’t need that. Nor can we afford it.
If we do get another ST it’s just gonna be a sideways switch not an improvement on what we have.
        pointless to do that.

      1. If that’s the case we’re already fùcked. We don’t have players for 442 unless he magically makes leao effective as a SS. But then we’re still one winger short

    1. What are you talking about? Even if Milan didn’t look like absolute DOG DOO all season wouldn’t you want management to INVEST, INVEST, INVEST!? I mean Juve about to add $50mill or so this month so if Gerry even wants to SNIFF UCL qualification he better open up the GD wallet, the cheap prick.

  3. Never sell to a direct rival management should know this by now, not even rookies make that mistake. But we should still sell tomori to Newcastle or west ham, and sell bennecar he’s a bad player with a short temper, but whatever happens don’t buy Reyna he’s terrible, and trincao is decent enough but I wouldn’t risk it better to go with someone who’s proved themselves at the top level and not just in Portugal

  4. I’m dying to see what happens in this transfer window. Cardinale and El Tri are gonna have to unf**k so much of what they did wrong, especially now that the loan is refinanced and they have more time and financial flexibility.

NOT TO MENTION, Conceicao won’t take $h!t from anyone, not even Zlatan. Fireworks pending.

  5. You’re 4 months too early for an April fools joke. Trincao has failed every time he’s stepped out of Portugal. Injury prone mother’s boy Reyna? He’s been linked with no one. Not even an MLS club will take the useless cripple.

  6. “six goals this season for Sporting in 27 games played”
    WOW!!! A proven goal poacher a la Inzaghi, eh? 😀 😀 😀 😀

FFS, we don’t need another Origi here.

  7. Literally all of these are useless signings. Go get frendrup and then ricci in the summer, get a Striker who isn’t allergic to goals and integrate Jovic who plays best with 2 up top (Sergio’s preferred lineup) and sell emerson to literally ANY takers and go for a RB like Zappa. Outside of that, start giving minutes to the young guys like Bartesaghi, Liberali, Camarda and Zeroli. Jimenez is likely already accepted in the first team tho I worry about overusing him given the brain dead clause our owners put in his contract

    1. So is your strategy to give up on this season? If so than I am all about going young. But if we’re still at least ATTEMPTING to qualify and make some kind of UCL run than we’re going to need SIGNIFICANT reinforcements at the half. Juve about to invest $50mill this mercato alone. If Gerry doesn’t want a full on riot on his hands he better open up the damn wallet!
