Tuttosport: ‘Allegri’s shadow over Fonseca’ – Milan need a turning point fast

It is fair to state that Paulo Fonseca has not had the best start to competitive life at AC Milan, and if things continue in this way, his future at the club could be short-lasting.

After a fantastic pre-season campaign, hopes were quite high for Milan’s season, not specifically because of results, but because of how the results arrived – Fonseca had his squad playing some nice football.

However, that has quickly become a distant memory with the Rossoneri failing to win either of their first competitive fixtures. Saturday’s loss to newly promoted Parma has highlighted several issues, and unfortunately, it seems that some departments have regressed since last season.

Defensively there were huge problems, and the squad looked unable to play with Fonseca’s ideas, and Tuttosport (via Milan News) suggest that unless there are changes soon discussions could begin about the Portuguese coach’s future.

This weekend’s fixture against Lazio already presents an ‘important crossroads’ for the Diavolo’s season, and whilst there are no questions about Fonseca yet, this could quickly change. A different Milan must show in the capital, and failure to deliver casts a heavy shadow on the season in the early stages.

The international break is around the corner, and if things do not improve, the paper suggests that the shadow of Massimiliano Allegri is already being cast over Fonseca – given talk is rife in Milan and Turin.

    1. That clown has 6 Scudetti, and took his Juve team to two Champions League finals.

What is the deal with all of these ‘ambitious’ people around here who don’t like proven winners.

        1. Nearly where coach in history has been fired….

I’ve no idea what ‘game plan’ you’re referring to but it’s clearly delivered RESULTS…

        2. Allegri won a Coppa Italia trophy when he got fired though. What did Pioli win last season when he got fired? I’ll wait! Smh

        1. Make as many excuses as you like to, I don’t know, justify why those titles somehow don’t count….

          This keeps happening around here.

Everyone seems to think winning is the easiest thing in the world and teams win because of 1 or 2 players.

Apparently Pioli also had nothing to do with Milan’s Scudetto that was all Ibra or Kessie to the Turkish Scum or anyone but anyone that somehow proves whatever made up rubbish is in people’s heads.

          1. Excuses? No, I’m just trying to say that Allegri is in need to have experienced players or champions in his team to achieve what he have achieved before. He didn’t do much with today’s Juventus

  1. The biggest Problem is we have no Leader in the team with experience for me I would have taken Sergio Ramo‘s and Hummels for free! That would‘ve been 0 transfer cost and 100% exprience.

    1. Unfortunately it will not help when there is no structure defensively or offensively. How can teams like Parma and Torino come 4 against 2 or 3 so many times during the matches?

That’s on the coach. The lack of offensive structure last two seasons was all on Pioli’s inability. This lack of offensive structure is on Fonseca.

If players that played in the Euro and Copa America are tired, then don’t start with them.
If players like Musah and RLC are offensive players, don’t make them play defensively without a clue.
If a player like Okafor is a winger, don’t make him play as a target player.
They will try but it will not help us.

Next time, if Bennacer is still here, start with Bennacer and Fofana as defensive midfielders. Our defense is not good enough right now and need protection.

Zlatan is all fun but has always been immature. This is way above his head.
The player is a legend. But he’s not a player anymore.

    1. Yeah not many good options now most of the candidates have taken new jobs.

But I’d take a chance on Sarri before bringing back Allegri.

  2. This fanbase is ridiculous, one loss and its like the whole world is over, everything needs to burn down and nothing will ever work ever again, what type of mentality is this?

    1. It is not just bout losing but how you lose and to what team you lose to. No single created from the first two matches. nothing to take home.

if a team like Milan most lose they have to lose with honor. .. just like the futuro the oldest in the starting line up is 20yrs while their opponent youngest player is 23yrs but still mange to hold them through the match and lost by a goal

  3. I take rumours lightly as certain rumours turned out to be reality. But this is a wild guessing from media who want to create panic among fans for more clicks.

But still, if Fonseca doesn’t turn this around it means we’ll have two ex coaches on a payroll. And Gerry, a genius banker and investor he is, probably wouldn’t like that. It’s a dangerous situation for our management.

I bet they would put Bonera in charge for the time being.

  4. Lol, who would have expected. The least exciting name on our coach target list delivering least exciting result. Even Giampaolo had better result on his first 2 matches.

The worst thing is that we didn’t see any progress from our 1st match, it’s even getting worse. Looking at the several players comment, it’s clear that Fonseca still can’t get ahold of his position on the locker room.

His dismissal is a long shot speculation. But honestly all the signs are starting to arrive.

      1. Not most, but more. He even got more points now compared to Fonseca with squads worth half than Milan, lol.

Meanwhile your culprit hero Pioli was even rejected by a club from Arabian league.

  5. Allegri may not bring attractive football but he brings solidity.. win the game with 1 or max 2 goals deficit only. But his team is hard to beat. He clearly has more experience than fonseca. But i think cardinale want a coach with soft attitude. Considering how allegri exit from juve, how he attack the director.. and off course because his salary is way bigger than fonseca.. so i think allegri is not coming..

  6. I actually dont see anything wrong with Allegri being sacked by juve. Even Ancelloti got sacked by Chelsea and PGS.

He even manage to bring Juve close to top 4 last season with all the point deduction he would have been ahead of Milan in standing. this alone shows how good he is to put his team in order and not disaster after losing 10-14points.

Yes he is an italian and his type of football is more old fashion defensively that is hard to break but guarantee winnings with little margin.

If he will give this team a soul and compactness with winnings he is more than welcome. All we wanted is to win not fancy football cuz that doesn’t win trophy

    1. Agreed. Allegri also won the Copa Italia while Pioli won nothing last season.

Allegri is a disciplinarian and that’s what this team needs a no nonsense coach who can control the dressing room and get these players in the right mindset for the games.

Love him or hate Allegri gets results even with a poorly built team like the one he had last season at Juventus and he still got them a trophy.

  7. If we need a Coach let hire Juanma Lillo. The assistant manager of Pep.
Fonseca has a similarity of play, like that of man city. Let’s bring in Juanma Lillo, just like Ansernal brought in Mikel Ateter. And they are doing well. We have the capacity to dominate the league

  8. Pioli is still under contract. If Fonseca is fired, Pioli will take over. The players like him. He’ll see out his contract, Moncada will be fired and a new director and a new coach take over next season.
