It is fair to state that Paulo Fonseca has not had the best start to competitive life at AC Milan, and if things continue in this way, his future at the club could be short-lasting.
After a fantastic pre-season campaign, hopes were quite high for Milan’s season, not specifically because of results, but because of how the results arrived – Fonseca had his squad playing some nice football.
However, that has quickly become a distant memory with the Rossoneri failing to win either of their first competitive fixtures. Saturday’s loss to newly promoted Parma has highlighted several issues, and unfortunately, it seems that some departments have regressed since last season.
Defensively there were huge problems, and the squad looked unable to play with Fonseca’s ideas, and Tuttosport (via Milan News) suggest that unless there are changes soon discussions could begin about the Portuguese coach’s future.
This weekend’s fixture against Lazio already presents an ‘important crossroads’ for the Diavolo’s season, and whilst there are no questions about Fonseca yet, this could quickly change. A different Milan must show in the capital, and failure to deliver casts a heavy shadow on the season in the early stages.
The international break is around the corner, and if things do not improve, the paper suggests that the shadow of Massimiliano Allegri is already being cast over Fonseca – given talk is rife in Milan and Turin.
