Tuttosport: Barcelona quickly turn from Milan star to Juventus outcast

Barcelona’s interest in Rafael Leao seems to have been short lived as they are now going for Federcio Chiesa of Juventus, according to a report.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Leao was the ‘forbidden dream’ for Barcelona in their quest to sign a new starting left winger, but Milan were categorical in maintaining a position of resistance in the event of an offer.

CEO Giorgio Furlani was the first to guarantee that Leao will remain at the club ‘100%’ and head coach Paulo Fonseca was asked about his compatriot during his pre-match press conference yesterday, also confirming that he will stay.

Barcelona fell back on Chiesa of Juventus after his agent Ramadani had proposed him in the past few days. An initial evaluation phase was immediately followed by the actual negotiation, for an operation that is win-win because of Juve’s need to sell and Barca’s desire to strengthen.

The paper adds that Chiesa – knowing that he needs to find an agreement with a club in the final days of the window to avoid a few months sat on the sidelines – even lowered his demands to a three-year contract at €4m net per season.

Juventus want €15m to sell the Italian while Barcelona do not want to go beyond €10m plus the inclusion of some bonuses, a distance that does not seem to be impossible to fill.

  1. 4 mil a year, get up in gear management and get this done.

Before people goes nuts about him being injured all the time i’ll repeat myself once more.

Chukwueze, 25 years old, injured for 164 matchdays
Chiesa, soon to be 27 years old, injured for 100 matchdays..-

    1. Cool stats.
There is one huge thing you are missing.
Most of Chiesa’s missed match days because of injuries are in the last couple of years, while Chukwueze’s are prior to the last couple of years.

      1. Still doesn’t change the fact that Chukwueze is more injury prone and he is even 2 years younger so lets see if he reaches 200 missed matchdays when he is 27 himself.

    2. for chuku it say he was ill during feb.2019 and feb.2020. missed 64 games.
but when you look at his play history, he played those games.. So there is a mistake somewhere here

      1. Oh I see, that’s actually great spotted flyingturtle, missed that myself so wont use that argument any longer 😀
To be fair I would still prefer us signing him and especially as its a favorable deal if he only is demanding 4 mil a year and is available for 15 mil or less.

        1. same. for 4M net its a no brainer.
Leao, Puli, Chiesa and Chuku. Thats is a lot of firepower and gives great cover on the wings for all fronts

  2. Some fans still think Chiesa is a top player even though Juventus is trying to get rid off him for peanuts and replace him with Nico Gonzalez at 38m. Juve wasted 60m on him and now they are trying to at least get 15m in what supposed to be the prime of his career. Bust.
Chiesa had few good weeks during Euro in the summer of 2021 and fooled people into thinking he is a top player.

    1. Chiesa is worth 35mil right now. The reason why he is so cheap is cause he is on expiring contract. He would be around 40mil if teams wanted to buy him otherwise. He is not staying in Juventus cause of personal reasons, not football reasons. Nico Gonzalez is worse player than him and far more injury prone than him.

      1. No sir. A player is worth whatever a team is ready to pay for him. Chiesa is worth 10m plus bonuses. That’s what he is worth to Barca.
About your excuse that he is cheap because he is on an expiring contract. Connor Gallagher contract was expiring next summer too, he was sold for 42 mil to Atlético few days ago. Leny Yoro was on an expiring contract, Man Utd paid around 60m for him. Fofana was on an expiring contract, Milan paid around 25 for him. Chukwueze was on an expiring deal, and Milan paid 20m + bonuses for him.
You see that’s just an excuse.
Chiesa is worth whatever Barca will agree to pay Juventus, and based on reports that’s 10m+ bonuses.
Doesn’t matter if it’s personal or football reasons, Juventus can’t wait to get rid of him.

        1. So if you have a house and nobody is putting up any offers for it and I then offers you a buck its worth a buck.
          Great logic.

          1. There’s a thing called “short sell” in the housing market whereas U|S sell your property below value because you’re upside down on Irina what is happening with Chiesa.

          2. Clearly can’t type this morning to save my life… but hopefully you get the point.

Not sure who Irina is, bet tell her I said hi.

          3. First of all wr are talking about a player not a house. Don’t make desperate comparisons without thinking logically.
But since you mentioned a house.
If no one is offering you anything about a house that you are trying to sell is probably because that house has a lot of issues. Like unpaid taxes going years back, bad plumbing, needs new roof, windows, etc. To fix up the house and get it up to code or living conditions you need to invest more money than what the house is worth.
You can value Chiesa at a 40m if no one in all of Europe isn’t offering you more than a quarter of that, than guess what, Chiesa is worth 10+ bonuses, not 40m.

          4. Well i can understand that demand is affecting pricing but to say that something is only worth what people wants to pay doesn’t completely reflect true value either.

          5. Well i get that Z but i just thought your example of valuation wasn’t completely correct even if understand what you are saying i see it as a truth with modifications.

        2. No, players on expiring contract are getting sold for less all the time. That’s the norm. Even in your examples. Cause soon they will be free agents and be able to go for free. (It can be different only if they have extension clause or want to renew). Can’t believe i even need to explain this to football fans.
Also it does matter if it is for footballing reasons or not, since you claim that Chiesa is not a top player since Juve wants to get rid of him. If they want to get rid of him for personal reasons that means it has nothing to do with him being good or bad player as you claim. So your point doesn’t make sense, that’s why it matters.

          1. Ha ha ha.
We get it bro, you are a Chiesa fan and you rate him highly. Too bad no one around Europe rates him like you do, because if Chiesa is a top player, teams would line up to buy him, expiring contract or not, personal/football reasons or not. All I’m reading are excuses, and refusal to accept reality.
Fofana didn’t have an extension clause, big teams around Europe will lining up for him, Milan was trying to low ball Monaco and they still had to pay 25 m. Why aren’t teams lining up for Chiesa? Why is Juventus forced to sell Chiesa for 10 m if he is a top player?

          2. @Z so when you dont have counter arguments you just write haha i guess. Chiesa or not you have no idea how this transfers work. At least try to learn. Fofana was sold below price as well for your info, because you guess it, he was on expiring contract as well. Again, that’s the norm and how things work. You are the one denying something obvious.

      2. Chiesa is worth what someone is willing to pay for him. Expiring contract or not. And so far he isn’t worth jack, because no one is stepping up.

    2. According to various reports Juventus wants to sell him as he didn’t want to renew so its not a question of him being bad and his stats for last year wasn’t bad at all as he scored 9 goals in Serie A and contributed with 3 assists and scored one goal in the Coppa Italia. That was done over 2512 minutes which equates to 27 full matches played so he basically contributed with a goal/assists every 2nd match.
Sure that is bad if you or others want to think so.

      1. Wrong. They are trying to sell him because they deem he isn’t worth the money he is asking, not because he doesn’t want to renew.
You say his stats weren’t bad, he had 9g and 3a. They paid 60 mil for him and he is asking 6m a year salary. For that money those are bad stats. Just for comparison RLC had 10g and 2 assists last season for Milan after he was bought for 16m and some Milan fans says he is trash. So how is Chiesa, a forward, with those numbers considered a top player, but RLC a midfielder is trash?
Players value go up and down based on performances.
Chiesa value today is 10m + bonuses, because that’s the best offer Juventus have on the table. Of all the teams around Europe, that’s what is on Juventus table today and that is Chiesa’s value.

        1. According to the article he is demanding 4 mil a year so for that kind of money he is certainly worth it in my view but whether those demands are correct or not might be a different matter.

          1. Tuttosport not reliable source martin. Fabrizio romano even say he is asking 9m euro nett from turks club ( i forgot between besiktas or fener) . In juve he get same salary like leao 5m euro nett + bonus 2m euro . It is hard to imagine he want reduce his salary to join ACM unless ACM are his boyhood club

          2. I would also be surprised if it is correct but you never know. I think his father once said that he was a Milan fan and would have loved to play for us so maybe his son like the club as well.

    3. @Z you’re looking at the transfer spending. But you’re not looking at the wages. Juve gets picky doesn’t sell because of low offers they have to pay him wages whether he plays or not. Why not cut your lost get what you can instead letting him leave for free while paying his full wages. I feel like some of your guys lacking brain cells and basic understanding about finance.
Which sounds more appealing paying wages to a player that isn’t useful and get nothing or sell at a low price getting some of you paid?

  3. Barca’a academy is supposedly stacked with talent. Why don’t they just promote someone? They clearly can’t afford to bring in quality…

    1. They got ferran, who isn’t a bad player, they got raphinha and ofc Jamal. And that once a promising Ansu Fati who is still only 22 in October.
They’re pretty well covered on the wings. Idk why they need a winger
Laporta just doing the same shît the what’s his name before him was doing…

  4. Barcelona, Milan, Chelsea and Man Utd are the worst run big clubs at the moment. They persevere in stupidity and are in a downward spiral unable to make intelligent decisions to change the wrong direction they are going
