Tuttosport: ‘Betting on potential’ – Milan more likely to keep Musah than Bennacer

AC Milan are looking to undergo a thinning process with their squad, and the midfield is an area that could be looked at specifically, and a report has suggested two players are facing the door, with the Rossoneri looking to bet on the future.

It is looking like it will go to the wire this summer for Milan, and there is one area which still needs addressing – defensive midfield. All summer, the Rossoneri have been infatuated with Youssouf Fofana, but a deal is proving difficult to complete.

Monaco have a price in mind but are seemingly not considering that the midfielder’s contract expires next summer. The Diavolo are very aware of that, though, and are refusing to meet the price point, knowing that they can get the midfielder for free next summer.

He is not the only player being considered, and Milan have made attempts to sign Lazar Samardzic this summer, but reports suggest that players must leave before he would potentially arrive, and the midfield could see some departures to allow one or two to arrive.

As Tuttosport (via Milan News) reports, Yacine Adli is a ‘main suspect’ to leave, and Ismael Bennacer’s future cannot be guaranteed either. If guarantees are to be given, it would likely be directed towards Yunus Musah, given the club are ‘betting’ on his potential.

  1. I would sell both. Isma’s form droping continuously and musah was never in form. We dont even know what is his ideal position here, the guy has played from RB to midfielder and winger all positions and wasn’t convincing in any of them ,he needs continuity which will hardly get ,idk why they even bought him…if you mention adli ,i would sell him too.

    1. Hilarious. Musah is 20 years old and one of the most press resistant players in the game. Absolutely elite. You have to take your chances that the rest of his game will develop because if it does, you may have a world class player.

  2. Like honestly i want Musah to succeed but dude seems limited af. Is this really a player a with almost a 100 games in la liga? Kids fresh from primavera make better in game decisions than him.

    1. I’d give him half a season and then make that choice. I agree that he was disjointed last season but my opinion just that a lot of it came from Pioli being a mediocre coach. Hopefully Fonseca can get him playing well.

    2. Musah played one season under Pioli who misused him in all types of weird positions like RB and RW. Musah is young and he is a mezzala.

He will get better under Fonseca. Bennacer and Adli can go in my opinion but I would rather Milan sign 2 DMs such as Fofana and Danilo from Nottingham Forrest instead of signing Samardzic.

Pulisic, Reinjders, Loftus Cheek, Zeroli and Liberali can all play attacking midfield. So there’s no need for Samardzic.

      1. Well yeah we need dms. Mezzalas are useless in double pivot.
As for musah and playing all around. If he had proper quality he’d adapt. Zeroli played rb last night, out of the blue, and did alright. Musah makes the same mistakes again and again and they’re not playing position oriented. They’re just bad calls and bad moves.
        Idk

      1. As an American I’ve watched Musah at Valencia and for the national team. He was very very good under Gatuso for Valencia when deployed as a 8. He’s been very good for the USA in a double pivot, and would be better if paired with a pass-first player.

Remember that he’s only 21. He is elite at dribbling the ball from defence to attack. If he matures a little bit he will be very very good. I would bet that Fonseca makes him a much better player since he has so much raw talent.

        1. That’s a cute comment. Raw talent and musah in the same sentence. After elite dribbling..

          What nonsense

As a not American I can tell you what I saw from musah, so far, is less in what vranckx showed when he was on loan here.

          1. According to FBref Musah was in the 93rd percentile of midfielders for progressive carries and 92nd percentile in take ons last season. Numbers don’t lie.

          2. O jesus. Another one with some useless percentile numbers.

Congratulations, you found 2 high numbers. And he’s more or less cràp at everything else. Football isn’t just how far you can run with the ball at your feet. Like it or not

  3. musah did barelry nothing last season bennacer i love him but if we get and 50 million offer from saudi we got to sell him and if we get and offer from musah over v20 million i would get pretty annoyed if we wouldnt sell him

  4. There are no offers for Bennacer, otherwise they would likely consider it. But if Benny leaves and Fofana doesn’t come in, then we have ZERO DM’s instead of two that we need.

Adli more likely to be forced out at this point.

  5. I don’t know, I feel we are giving up on Benny too soon. Yeah he had a crap season, but we all know what he can do. As there are no major offers for him anyways, I think he should be given an extra season to prove he can get back to his old self

    1. “I feel we are giving up on Benny too soon..” (same case as Kalulu, and Thiaw when he was rumoured to Newcastle). That right there, seems like it going to be like this with this management. 2-3 year cycle where a player might be unlucky with injuries or a season, then sell. How can you build up a team when picking up the half the pieces of the foundation.
I won’t say that those players are in his level, but Van Dijk had a bad 2 seasons ago, and he came back strong

  6. He is an American.. lol

I do not really believe in his ability but he is very useful being a utility player that can cover many roles in time of crisis. Strong fast and ball carrier

  7. Musah will not have time to develop here. He plays Mezzala and I don’t see us playing 433 again and him beating any of the alternatives. He should be sold, even if he is successful elsewhere. If the commercial requirement is to have another american player, McKennie (who I am not a fan of) is better suited to cover a role we have a massive gap in and is on a free xfer.

  8. the yank owners wanna keep Musah because he’s American and they want the American market. Bennacer is class but with his injuries and the prices being mentioned for him I’d be okay for him to go. Adli is such a good influence for the team and the fans he should get to stay at least for one season and finally get tested on his favourite position

  9. Bennacer is the only midfielder I’d keep on this team from current crop. Reijnders for the AM role.

Adli, Pobega, RLC, Musah are Roma/Fiorentina/Torino level players and shouldn’t think twice to sell if suitable offers come in.

  10. Sell both Bennacer and Adli.
With Fofana coming in, him and Reijnders are the starters.
Bennacer is not a starting caliber player for a team like Milan.
He was a bench player during Milan best seasons over the last 5 years.
The only reason why he became a starter in 22/23 is because that management back then didn’t sign anyone to replace Kessie after they missed out OK Renato Sanches.
Without Bennacer last season Milan finished 2nd.
Sell Bennacer, sell Adli. Keep Pobega for quota purposes. Bring both Fofana and Kone.

  11. Musah is athletic and sturdy, won’t miss time. In training, experts and coaches see quality and potential, great attitude and instincts, versatility. Develop him. There will be a payoff.

  12. Musah makes some bad decisions that kill off any expectation from him, like a no look back heel pass back into his own side of the field while running forward, in one of our last 2 matches. it was effectively a through pass on behalf of our opponents. such poor decision making hampers his progress. One comment made by capello about Paqueta applies to musah now : “tactical naivety”. it cost Paqueta his career with us. if Fonseca cannot deploy him to his strengths he is better off with another team.
