Tuttosport: Cairo rules out Buongiorno sale – the story of Milan’s interest and bid

AC Milan look like being disappointed in their pursuit of Alessandro Buongiorno as Torino president Urbano Cairo seems determined to reject any offers.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera) confirms tht Cairo reiterated his idea of not selling Buongiorno and he did so after a meeting with the player’s agent, Beppe Riso, but there are a couple of interesting background points.

Cairo said: “We are on very good terms with Riso [the defender’s agent]. The theme of Buongiorno, as I have already said, is not a topic on the agenda so Buongiorno remains with Torino, period. In the most absolute way: he is 100% staying.”

The paper claims that Milan started to accelerate a month ago in their pursuit of Buongiorno, having a number of different discussions with Riso to gauge the feasibility of the operation.

An official offer was not presented, but through an intermediary they knocked on Cairo’s door, as well as that of Torino director Davide Vagnati. The verbal offer was Lorenzo Colombo plus around €15-20m in cash.

The other bit of background involves Bayern Munich, who are pursuing a new centre-back – given De Ligt’s repeated physical issues – and the name of Buongiorno also appeared in their orbit.

However, Cairo’s requests to Bayern were €35-40m and this convinced the Bavarians to move to other targets. In the summer, though, everything could change.

  1. His price shouldn’t be higher than 30 mil. He is the same caliber of a player as Dragusin who just got sold for 25 + bonuses to an EPL club.
20 mil + Colombo is the right valuation.
Cairo still hasn’t learned his lesson from the Belotti case.
