AC Milan are currently more keen on signing Riccardo Calafiori to be backup to Theo Hernandez than Pasquale Mazzocchi, a report claims.
As has been reported by Tuttosport (via Milan News), the Rossoneri are keen to sign a new left-back once they have sold Fode Ballo-Toure and there is a hierarchy with the targets.
It is looking increasingly likely that Ballo-Toure will soon be securing a move to Werder Bremen as he agreed on personal terms with the Bundesliga side on Monday.
There are two players that Milan are looking very seriously at, but they are favouring Calafiori who currently plays for FC Basel.
It is not clear exactly when Calafiori is preferred to Salernitana’s Mazzocchi, but it could be down to how well he performed in the Europa Conference League last season, helping Basel reach the semi-finals.
Both players are Italian which is beneficial when it comes to registration rules.
I actually like Mazzocchi more for his versatility. Only issue is he is 28. But this is fine too.
Calafiori can play cb and lb so it’s a good move for depth. However I hope this doesn’t limit Bartesaghi’s minutes.
Mazzocchi can do RB too. Maybe we should get both considering Calabria’s injury? Or maybe Kalulu will really be made more into a RB.
Let’s not count the chickens before they hatch. We still need to offload Ballo-Toure, and it seems that nobody is rushing to make it happen (player, Milan or the interested teams)
Probably things will become more chaotic in the second half of August.
I don’t know Calafiori well, but I’m not expecting him to be better than Ballo Toure. He’s Italian so less issue with the lists and hopefully he’ll become better as time goes by…
