Tuttosport: De Ketelaere has tough night against Milan despite positive season

By Euan Burns -

Atalanta forward Charles De Ketelaere was expected to be one of the main protagonists against AC Milan on Sunday night but he failed to make any real impact on the game.

The Belgian forward is currently on loan at Atalanta from Milan and could be joining La Dea permanently in the summer, so there was a lot of attention on him ahead of the Serie A clash on Sunday.

As Tuttosport (via Pianeta Milan) has highlighted, the performance from De Ketelaere in front of his parent club actually ended up being one of his worst this season, in what has been a really successful campaign.

He set up a decent chance for Teun Koopmeiners in the first half but that was the extent of his positive involvement, and Gian Piero Gasperini actually took him off at half-time and replaced him with Ademola Lookman. The match ended 1-1 after a Koopmeiners penalty cancelled out Rafael Leao’s opener.

This performance should not do much to impact his future given it seems inevitable Atalanta will pay the optional fee at the end of the season to sign him permanently from Milan.

That aside, De Ketelaere will be annoyed at having missed the opportunity to run the game against his parent club, something that would have really marked his progress in Italian football.

  1. CDK did nothing. Lookman was far more dangerous.
CDK still has a very long way to go particularly mentally to be able to threaten better teams in hotter atmospheres

    1. Yep. I said it during the game in the official lineups article. CDK withers in the lights of the San Siro. He’s got talent. but he is not mentally strong.

      1. Yeah agreed. I’ve been to san siro several times, its like going on stage with the rolling stones. The atmosphere is huge, you need to have that performance streak in you, its a daunting stage

  2. Isnt it that atalanta had a tough night against milan despite a positive season??? Journalists are the demons terrorising these kids playing football nowadays

  3. To be fair, their whole team was trash in the game (Lookman sort of did well when he came on though but that was it basically). Haven’t seen such a bad game from them in such a long time. They literally played with zero tactics and their usual press was non existent (I have a feeling on purpose too to try to catch us on the counter). They lucky to have Escaped with a point

  4. I’m not sure why some are attributing Milan’s performance to Atalanta’s form being off VS Milan actually playing well and effective to neutralize anything Atalanta could attempt…

Atalanta came in here in flying form. 7wins in their last 8 with plenty of goals scored. This side plays physical football with speed on the counter.

And the did nothing against Milan. So, no. This wasn’t on Atalanta’s off night. This was 100% Milan stifling them. The only pity on the night is not being able to walk away with all the points.
