Tuttosport: Emergency in midfield against Lazio – the solution if Tonali does not recover

By Oliver Fisher -

There is not even time to celebrate and enjoy the excellent win over Sassuolo because preparations must already begin for the game against Lazio on Wednesday.

The Rossoneri want to reach the Christmas break first in the standings, but it will not be easy as they will first have to beat the Biancocelesti, who will be buzzing after yesterday’s victory against Napoli.

Ismael Bennacer will be out until the new year with a muscle problem while Franck Kessie will be suspended for the next game, and Sandro Tonali came off at half-time against Sassuolo with an injury too.

As Tuttosport reports (via MilanNews), the only player who has a safe place from the first minute is Rade Krunic. Tonali’s injury shouldn’t be anything serious, but the former Brescia man is in doubt and will be evaluated in the next few hours by the medical staff.

If Tonali does not recover, Pioli will have to ask a player to adapt and the main suspect seems to be Hakan Calhanoglu. In his career, the Turkey international has been deployed as a regista in a three-man midfield, while for him it would be a new thing to play in a two-way median.

Against Lazio, there will therefore be a great emergency in the middle of the field, but Milan have already shown that they can be stronger than the difficulties they face.
