Tuttosport: An ‘engima’ and an ‘alternate’ – Milan eyeing up Theo deputy

With his latest controversy, talks about Theo Hernandez’s future at AC Milan have been thrown back into the limelight, and it seems the Rossoneri are back to reconsidering things about his position.

During the summer, there were several instances where it seemed that the left-back was close to departing, and his own admission about his future deeply hurt the club – largely because Zlatan Ibrahimovic had offered clarity on the situation in the days prior.

Since then, problems have been more common than anything else, and the Frenchman has taken more negative headlines than positive ones.

The cooling break incident, followed by the madness in Florence, it is an uphill struggle for Theo at present.

However, it is the game against Fiorentina which is leading to the most questions. Milan are without an apt replacement – truthfully, they have been in this position for several years – and this is pushing them to the mercato.

As Tuttosport (via Milan News) writes, the Frenchman is an ‘enigma’, and whilst the player wants to continue with the club and vice versa, there are no discussions yet. Especially considering his performances have dropped in the past 18 months. Therefore, a salary like the one requested seems unjust.

For this reason, at the very least, a deputy must be found to offer competition and provide when the Frenchman does not. At present, the preferred name is Maxim De Cuyper, who Geoffrey Moncada has been watching closely in recent years.

Given the Belgian left-back has now taken the starting spot in the National Team set-up, his current qualities are well known, but it is possible the alternate could ‘be more if necessary’.

It was believed that Theo would have his contract discussed after the closing of the summer mercato, but with no real movement, and the Rossoneri looking at high-potential deputies, it shows the current state of affairs.

    1. I’d poach Mario rui from Napoli. We don’t need another talent for a deputy. We need a sure thing and rui has the exp to give it and looks like isn’t in conte plans

  1. Sure, we play two seasons without a real deputy, because we believe in our own talents (Jimenez and Barts). and now they are getting close to the level we need we’d buy another young player instead. makes 0 sense. @flyingturtle: i agree with you to take an old deputy instead and Mario Rui is a good idea, but he’d take a non-Italian spot and therefore I’d go for either Spinazzola, or someone who can cover multiple positions (e.g. Joakim Maehle)

    1. Spinazzola was available last summer for free but our technical director Moncada had better ideas with shipping out Kalulu and wasting money on Emerson. Then Conte signed Spinazzola for Napoli.

  2. Around 10 million for Tierney… Offload tomori and we have two positions covered as back up. Him and pav can rotate. Gives Tierney enough playing time. Another possible outcome. We sell tomori in January and have Tierney on loan and buy in the summer for cheaper as he has one year left. Just slight concern with injuries.. sorry posted this before haha

    1. Mario rui will je reliable, sûre

But we need a talent like this de cuyper.
Or better still go for sergio gomez, ranieri, hato

  3. We should offload chukeweze and try and get Ben doak too. looked dangerous against Croatia for Scotland and is only 18. Yeah I’m just wanting more Scots in serie a. We can also offload loftus and get Ferguson from bologna but he might cost a bit to prise him away

  4. To be fair my knowledge of De Cuyper is a bit limited but you dont replace a 60 mil left back with a 12 mil one unless you are actually looking for trouble and protests.

  5. I really want Rooney bardghji to play for the Rossoneri. His contract has one year away. Please get his A.S.A.P before the other clubs get him first.

    1. Great talent but is out with a cruciate ligament tear and has been so for many months. I think he will stay with FC Copenhagen for another season to get up in gears again as he is only 18 years old.

  6. de cuyper could be good option guys fr
mario rui isnt playing anymore so you guys want him? weird
we could have signed Fabiano Parisi for 15m now there isnt any italian LB avaiable anymore other teams that they will ask us big money which our management isnt willing to pay and maehle is long gone washed up old talent he isnt gonna do somethin also you guys in the end gonna say costagne too lol

    1. Florenzi wasn’t playing at roma. Giroud wasn’t playing at Chelsea. Kjaer wasn’t playing at atalanta.
Nothing wrong with getting an exp player like Rui. They are plug and play. Meanwhile a foreigner will need months to integrate.

      1. He isn’t good tho.
Also I talked about Parisi you didn’t comment on that. There isn’t an exp player that we can get at this moment also he is probably going to be injured like florenzi is like kjaer was you see where I’m going with this
Giroud was playing with Chelsea but he wasn’t good he show he’s quality when he joined us

        1. Parisi is in the past. Why talk about players Milan didn’t buy and shown 0 interested in buying in the future.
Rui is not good? Not sure if you ever saw him play. And we are talking about a deputy position. We don’t need a world beater for 50 mil for it. A veteran for a couple of mil will do.

I always find it ridiculous when people will say nah rui or whoever isn’t good, he’s gonna be injured all the time. But when humels is available people will go, yeah we need to sign this ASAP. Has a similar injury history but that doesn’t matter anymore.
