Tuttosport: An ‘engima’ and an ‘alternate’ – Milan eyeing up Theo deputy

With his latest controversy, talks about Theo Hernandez’s future at AC Milan have been thrown back into the limelight, and it seems the Rossoneri are back to reconsidering things about his position.

During the summer, there were several instances where it seemed that the left-back was close to departing, and his own admission about his future deeply hurt the club – largely because Zlatan Ibrahimovic had offered clarity on the situation in the days prior.

Since then, problems have been more common than anything else, and the Frenchman has taken more negative headlines than positive ones.

The cooling break incident, followed by the madness in Florence, it is an uphill struggle for Theo at present.

However, it is the game against Fiorentina which is leading to the most questions. Milan are without an apt replacement – truthfully, they have been in this position for several years – and this is pushing them to the mercato.

As Tuttosport (via Milan News) writes, the Frenchman is an ‘enigma’, and whilst the player wants to continue with the club and vice versa, there are no discussions yet. Especially considering his performances have dropped in the past 18 months. Therefore, a salary like the one requested seems unjust.

For this reason, at the very least, a deputy must be found to offer competition and provide when the Frenchman does not. At present, the preferred name is Maxim De Cuyper, who Geoffrey Moncada has been watching closely in recent years.

Given the Belgian left-back has now taken the starting spot in the National Team set-up, his current qualities are well known, but it is possible the alternate could ‘be more if necessary’.

It was believed that Theo would have his contract discussed after the closing of the summer mercato, but with no real movement, and the Rossoneri looking at high-potential deputies, it shows the current state of affairs.

    1. I’d poach Mario rui from Napoli. We don’t need another talent for a deputy. We need a sure thing and rui has the exp to give it and looks like isn’t in conte plans

  1. Sure, we play two seasons without a real deputy, because we believe in our own talents (Jimenez and Barts). and now they are getting close to the level we need we’d buy another young player instead. makes 0 sense. @flyingturtle: i agree with you to take an old deputy instead and Mario Rui is a good idea, but he’d take a non-Italian spot and therefore I’d go for either Spinazzola, or someone who can cover multiple positions (e.g. Joakim Maehle)

  2. Around 10 million for Tierney… Offload tomori and we have two positions covered as back up. Him and pav can rotate. Gives Tierney enough playing time. Another possible outcome. We sell tomori in January and have Tierney on loan and buy in the summer for cheaper as he has one year left. Just slight concern with injuries.. sorry posted this before haha

  3. We should offload chukeweze and try and get Ben doak too. looked dangerous against Croatia for Scotland and is only 18. Yeah I’m just wanting more Scots in serie a. We can also offload loftus and get Ferguson from bologna but he might cost a bit to prise him away
