Tuttosport: Flamengo starlet emerges as an option for Milan’s midfield

By Isak Möller -

A new name has appeared on AC Milan’s radar in their midfield pursuit: Joao Gomes. There isn’t much time left on the transfer window, though, and the Rossoneri must hurry, as a report claims.

Several players have been linked with Milan over the last few weeks but Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are no closer to signing a midfielder. As we are entering the final days of the mercato, a sense of urgency is starting to show itself.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Milan have slowed down their pursuit of Bordeaux midfielder Jean Onana. Contacts are being kept alive with the entourage of Wolfsburg youngster Aster Vranckx, who is expected to leave but also has attracted the interest of Atalanta.

The new name, as mentioned, is Joao Gomes. The 21-year-old played 45 games for Flamengo last season and impressed in his defensive midfield role. Milan will have to understand if the operation is feasible and whether it can be conducted in such a short period of time.

  1. How about we stop broadcasting our targets to the world and just go sign one so we can’t get fleeced or outbid…just a thought to the Milan hierarchy….

    1. Have you seen any reference or quote actually attributed to the club? No? That is because these are rumours and the club is not “broadcasting their targets” as you suggested. Media link players to clubs all the time, it doesn’t mean the rumour is accurate. Way too much angst and much ado about nothing.

      1. I fear you may have overlooked my levity…but it does come with a salient point. As you say most rumours are just click bait, however it does seem in the case of Enzo Fernandez particularly (who by the way has been superb) that we were caught napping. There’s also Sanches and Botman.

        1. I did indeed. Hard to extract intent from text based communication at times. In the case of Fernandez, if Milan’s interest was true, it was likely waiting on Sanches that cost them that opportunity. That said, given the cost, it would have likely been a case of either him or CDK but not both. I am satisfied with the market as-is either way.

          1. Yeah it is hard at times. I tend to add a flavour of humour or sarcasm in my posts…I’ve lived through the Galliani era 😂 part of me still expects Robinho to sign on deadline day…

I think of all the cases the Enzo Fernandez one looks the real faux pas from us. He would’ve been a ready made, ground running impact player for us….of course it comes down to money but we are going to spend 10m ish on whoever we sign for midfield, that’s what Benfica paid and I bet we don’t get a better player than Fernandez…

    2. We could make steal mercato when other teams underestimate us, like 2019-2021 (before won the scudetto). We can steal : Theo (20 m euros, now valued 55m euros), Tomori (28m euros, now 50m euros), Kalulu (

      1. Theo and Tomori were not steals when they were signed.
Milan payed 20 mil for Theo who was a part time player at Sociedad.
Milan payed 30 mil for Tomori who was 5th or 6th CB choice at Chelsea.
That’s a lot of money for unproven, bench or part time players.
I agree that Kalulu was a steal

  2. Wow… Who Scout for Milan is very good. Considering Enzo Fernandez that I watched in the UEFA champions league qualifier that guy is fucking good.. More than expectations very technical and smart play. I think this guy might be better than other names considering his age n his physics. Am just tired of speculation about Milan’s transfer.

  3. there is will be no more incoming mercato. There will be only outgoing transfers.

We are already in fit & balaced squad.
    GK : Maignan, Tatarusanu, Mirante
CB : Tomori, Kjaer, Kalulu, Gabbia
    RB : Calabria, Florenzi
    LB : Theo, Ballo-Toure
Pivot : Tonali, Bennacer, Pobega, Krunic / Adli (He was a pivot at French)
    RW : Saelemaekers, Messias
    LW : Leao, Rebic
    AMC : De Ketelaere, Brahim
STC : Origi, Giroud, Ibrahimovic, Lazetic

There are already 26 players, i even exclude Bakayoko.
    ACM Home-Grown : Calabria, Gabbia, Pobega, Lazetic (U21) – 4 players.
Italian Home-Grown : Mirante, Florenzi, Tonali.

Very fit & meet the UCL regulations.
