Tuttosport: Fonseca may go even with positive derby result – the candidates to replace him

After the defeat against Liverpool, Paulo Fonseca’s job is at risk and tomorrow night’s derby risks being decisive for his future, a report claims.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports that the reality is that even a positive result might not be enough to keep him in his position, meaning that he could be sacked anyway after tomorrow’s game.

Behind Fonseca’s possible farewell there is the fact that his Milan side are not only experiencing a crisis in terms of results, but also of identity. There is no clear style of play, and the problem of too many goals conceded remains.

To this must also be added the non-idyllic relationship with Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao who should be the driving forces of the Milan team and instead are having a rather negative start to the season.

Fonseca hopes to see a reaction of pride from his boys tomorrow night against Inter, in particular from the Portuguese who in the past have already been decisive in some derbies and will want to do well on the biggest stage.

While waiting for the match, the directors do not want to be caught unprepared if the situation were to worsen on Sunday evening. There is obviously no shortage of rumours and gossip about the candidates to replace Fonseca, with the favourites being Maurizio Sarri, Edin Terzic and Igor Tudor.

The latter plays with a three-man defence, but would also be able to adapt to a different formation and would have the character needed to shake up the players. The other candidates in the running are Sergio Conceiçao, Max Allegri and Thomas Tuchel.

  1. To me let’s bring Terzic or Tuchel for the rest, they don’t have a good style of play to motivate player to do the needful. Sergio and Jumil. The assistant of Pep. I fancy man city style of play a lot. And I believe that can help control serieA

    1. Yeah man it’s all about entertainment now. Will Théo drink water on the left or the right of the field? Will Zlatan conduct an orchestra? Will a skydiver land on the field with a giant US flag? Will Jerry arrive with his private jet to rescue the day? That’s even more exciting than Jerry Springer.

  2. How I wish Musah get a life line chance under Sarri ball I prefer him that RLC who is a mess and busy getting game time week in week out

We need to get Ricci and send Ruben away

  3. Still, those consider as favourite by the management are still not the best ones, because, Tuchel, is better than both Sarri, Tudor & Terzic.

Milan stop your stinginess of hiring lower wages coaches for a while please & go for good coaches. You should by now learn a lesson, because, you are already lagging behind

    1. And your theory that the hiring of coaches is based on low salaries comes from where? The club have spent over €200 million in 2 years. If a big name coach becomes available, they’ll pay a high salary.

  4. Changing coach might help a little – especially if it’s Conceiçao Tuchel – but our defence has been awful since winning the scudetto. There’s no magic bullet that’s going to stop them acting like looney tunes overnight.

  5. If the coach might leave even if he wins the derby, what’s the point of not having a new coach right now ?
So we’re heading into a crucial game for our season with a team in dissaray and a coach who knows that even if he wins he might still lose his job ? How is he supposed to prepare for the game ?
If he wins (or even draws) Fonseca should stay. If he loses, then firing him should be considered.
Hiring Fonseca wasn’t a good idea, but right now, he isn’t the only one to blame for our bad results, and I’m afraid that even a new coach won’t be able to bring us the season we’re hoping for, unless a fluke like Zidane with Real Madrid in 2016.

  6. You also need to count that the manager coming in knows the team and he has to want to come. I doubt Tuchel would want to come to embarrass himself with this midfield. Maybe at the end of the season when he can influence the new signings. So he won’t join Milan, you heard Ibra, he is the boss so we will blame him for any bad results. For others, Conceicao would be a good option and Sarri would also be a great temporary solution as he would take it and allegedly has a plan already. At the end of season check how he did and get a new coach or let him for another season.
