Tuttosport: Fonseca searches for solidity – two new signings in line to start vs. Parma

Paulo Fonseca’s selection decisions for the first official match of the season against Torino have been discussed and continue to be talked about, but a report has claimed that some changes can be expected on Saturday.

As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) recall this morning, the performance from Milan in the season opener was one which didn’t offer many reassurances in terms of the problems from last year being fixed, as the team looked wide open and not very cohesive.

A chance to put things right quickly comes on Saturday in Parma, and two important new additions should help give Milan compactness, namely Strahinja Pavlovic in defence and Youssouf Fofana in midfield.

The former remained on the bench for the entire match against Torino, while the latter had just arrived and therefore watched the game from the stands while he was introduced to the fans during half-time. Both are now in the running for a starting spot against Parma.

It is no mystery that Pavlovic was brought in to bring some healthy toughness to Milan’s rearguard, while in midfield a player like Fofana was missing, that being a physical player capable of giving balance to the entire team.

Compared to the game against the Granata, there will also be other new names in the starting line-up such as the return of Theo Hernandez and Tijjani Reijnders from minute one. Both came off the bench at the weekend and made an instant impact.

      1. I am not 100% sure. If you watched Pavlovic play you know he is a bit clumsy and aggressive. That combination calls for mistakes. We’ll see, I hope he got over some of those things, he is still young and learning.

  1. If we are not using the right formation for this team then we are still screwed. Milan need to play 433. Plain and simple. Fofana, Musah, Bennacer, Reinjders and Loftus Cheek will be at their best in this formation.

  2. Did you watch Juventus? That is the coach we should have gotten, and we got a guy that I think is not better than Pioli. Maybe a bit different style but ideas on the level of Pioli. Unfortunately, I think Milan will battle for 3rd or 4th position. With Roma and Atalanta probably.

    1. Calm down dude. It’s one game when we were without 4 of our starters. And Juventus played the worst team in the league…give them the title already.
