Tuttosport: Furlani’s ‘diplomatic mission’ to sign Fofana – what Milan must do

With a striker and central defender added to AC Milan’s squad, the next priority is to add a new defensive-minded midfielder. The ideal addition is Youssouf Fofana, but finalising a deal is not an easy task.

The past few weeks have agonisingly dragged in the Fofana negotiations, and whilst it seemed like things would conclude after France’s European Championship ended, this has not been the case for several reasons.

Monaco are historically difficult negotiators and this much has remained true in the deal for Fofana, where things are barely proceeding – which is understandable considering the positions of both clubs.

For the Rossoneri, they do not want to spend big on a player whose contract expires next season, especially considering he has a desire to join Milan. However, Monaco view the situation frustratingly – the player still has a contract, and whilst he does, they have a price in mind.

As Tuttosport (via Radio Rossonera) reports, the Diavolo are now on a ‘diplomatic mission’ to patch the rift between the two clubs, and the attempts are being led by Giorgio Furlani. Given Milan agreed a deal in principle with the player before the club, this has frustrated Monaco, who have been left with a sour taste in their mouths.

Should Milan fail to land the Frenchman, they will target Manu Kone.
