Tuttosport: ‘Greater appeal’ – Depay’s high price off-putting for Milan

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are looking to invest in a third striker alongside Luka Jovic and presumably Alvaro Morata. One of the names they are tempted by is Memphis Depay, but there are issues with his demands.

It seems growingly clear what Milan are looking for across their striker department, and the decision about Joshua Zirkzee could have taken this into account, but that is speculative.

Since the Zirkzee pursuit derailed, the names attached to the striker post are Tammy Abraham, Niclas Fullkrug, Memphis Depay and Alvaro Morata – who could sign as early as this week, with a medical scheduled for the middle of the week.

Morata, Fullkrug and Depay are all in their 30s, albeit the Dutchman has only just joined the ‘club’ so to speak. Jovic, who imaginably, will not play a key role, is 26, and whilst Abraham is also 26, the recruitment seems to focus on an older bracket of players.

Maybe this could be done with Francesco Camarda in mind, but the club is looking to add experience upfront rather than a young profile. Maybe this is solely being done to save some money – again, speculating – but this is not the case when it comes to Depay.

As Tuttosport (via Milan News) reports, the Dutchman may have greater appeal, which could be linked to the fact that he is available for free, but his wage demands are ‘very high’, which is off-putting.
