Tuttosport: Fonseca choice and Milanello absence – Ibrahimovic ends up in the dock

By Oliver Fisher -

The storm that has hit AC Milan after a difficult start to the new season has not spared anyone, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic even ending up in the dock.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) writes this morning that holding Ibrahimovic to account is not a lèse-majesté, because even an icon like Paolo Maldini was not spared from criticism and it is the price to pay when you go from being a leader of the dressing room to becoming the guarantor of the project.

Zlatan is the object of scrutiny because he is seen as the embodiment of the club’s summer choices, especially on the issue related to the coach, where everyone would have expected a different choice than Paulo Fonseca given the possibility of hiring other names.

Some fans wants Antonio Conte who later ended up with Napoli, others wanted Roberto De Zerbi to return ‘home’ but he is now at Marseille, then there were strong links with Sergio Conceiçao who is still a free agent.

Ibrahimovic – with his cryptic social media posts, light-hearted interviews and mountain excursions – is a more or less constant absence from Milanello where Maldini often followed the work of the team. Thus, he is perhaps a bit more detached than many thought he would be.

In short, considering the situation in which Milan currently finds itself after the first few days of the season, there is a need for a turning point, which only a personality like Ibra’s can provide. His presence will be fundamental, yet the players and coach must take some responsibility.

  1. Having Xavi and Conceicao as free agents feels less of a burden to fire Fonseca!

Hope we don’t lose a lot before shifting gears! But selling all of our playmakers in midfield would make their jobs harder…

    1. For those who support Fonseca. Napoli hires Mctomina and Juventus Koopmeiners. Fonseca WANTS AHIBRAHAM!!!! 12 place!!!!/ 2 date!!!!

    2. Either Xavi or Conceicao would be a massive upgrade

Oh Zlatan oh Zlatan where art thou???? Still climbing the Alps while the transfer market is still going on???

What dedication! Maldini lived and breathed Milan – was there every day. So disappointing

      Terrible.

  2. I don’t get why didn’t Milan sign a single creative player when the biggest issue in this team is creation in attack. 15M Chiesa, 20M Samardzic, not like there were not targets in the Milan fee range, under 20M. But nothing. I really don’t get it. Stuck with RLC at AMC. 😀

    1. So RLC cost the same as these guys. Just a comparison with the so called “amazing deal” for RLC, that is what was written last season. That 20M is a steal for him.

    2. Because of Liberali. If a creative player is signed, his route is blocked. Fonseca played him in pre-season and didn’t have the balls to play him from the start in the league.

  3. Milan need to hire experienced people in management and stop hiring inexperienced past players.

Both Maldini and Ibra are horrible INEXPERIENCED directors because they DON’T know how to do this good job in my opinion.

Let’s not forget it was Maldini who chose Giampaolo as our coach. Now Ibra chose Fonseca. Both coaches are weak and lack strong leadership in the dressing room.

I would have taken Allegri or Sarri over these 2 coaches chosen by Maldini and Ibra.

Both times they chose someone who in my opinion is not capable of taking the team to the next level.

People can say all they want about Allegri and his football but when given proper players he gets RESULTS and wins trophies.

Milan had a better team than Juventus but yet Juventus finished in 2nd place minus the points deduction that saved Pioli and last season they won the Coppa Italia by outplaying and beating Atalanta.

Allegri would bring strong leadership and defensive solidity to this team. We have players like Leao and Pulisic who are good wingers in 1 on 1 and they can create chances.

The Sarri option would not be a bad option either since this team is built to play 433 and not a suicidal 4231 formation with a high line and no defensive midfielder.

  4. It would be rather paradoxical if an American owner hired a self declared communist in Sarri. I think it was according to either Galliani or Sacchi the main reason why Berlusconi didn’t want to hire him either.
Personally I think he was able to make Napoli play some really entertaining and beautiful football though.

    1. Because he’s the face of the team in front of the fans and the media. That’s pretty confusing, like everything else at Casa Milan.

    2. To be fair there was an interview at some point where it was clarified that the decisions was split in between the team of Ibra/Moncada/Furlani so if anything it goes back to the entire collective.

    3. A few days ago he said “the transfer marked is over when i say so” , its not like we will go to check his contract documentation to see what power he has

        1. For all of us who have followed Milan since Gianni Rivera, Gullit, van Basten, Kaka, Schevscenko et Al, Zlatan is not at their level. He was simply good, but as a manager rather bad. He is responsible for Fonseca as well as what he did with the team. Sell Kalulu to Juve and buy Emerson Royal for so much money was absolutely the worst he did. By the way I live in Sweden, and I should have liked Zlatan more…

    4. Because he said it AND Cardinals said Ibra had his proxy – he said Ibra speaks for Gerry

Not sure why any former great player would ever want to go into a managerial role – come in as a hero and stay long enough to become a villain

  5. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

This keeps getting better and better 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  6. breaking down compact teams will be the issue again. we either rely on Leao or Pulisic…in era’s past we had Boban, seedorf, Rui costa, Kaka, Pirlo, Redondo, Baggio, Savicevic, Gullit, Ronaldinho etc. now we have a bunch of sideways passers!

  7. There are no leaders in this team – a factor that hinders development and growth especially in the difficult times. Ibra should understand that and provide leadership.

  8. This arogance will destroy us.Man who think he is God lead our team 😂😂😂 Im sorry for me and fans who must wait we lose this season to kick this man from club. We will lose for free everything like lose Kesi,Donaruma etc

  9. I told my son (also a big Milanista) several times that I preferred Conceição to Fonseca. I also, of course, preferred Thiago Motta above both Portuguese managers. My son wanted De Zerbi.

Of course we went for the very worst one, Fonseca, a really mediocre loser. Now we are harvesting what we sowed.

It’s mind-boggling that Xavi and Conceição remain free agents; I didn’t know. That does provide some hope that once Fonseca finishes to crash and burn, someone better will come, although I’m not sure that it will be Xavi or Conceição; maybe another mediocre and cheap yes-man.

  10. I liked Ibra as a player. He was the best, but I think Ibra has a long way to learn how to manage. He could manage himself but he has no capacity to manage lots of people.
Now, if I recall Milan is still paying Pioli 10M until his contract run’s out, if let’s say Fonseca has to be push aside because of the results it would be horrible and expensive to afford a better coach. Think we could have got Conte!!!
I am sceptical, Milan would consider good profile as the management would prefer cheeper opsion and people that can be controlled. Soft coaches are better, so the managers can drink their coffee in peace. If you had some one like Conte, you might not even get any coffee 😜
I think Ibra is afraid of Conte😉
