Tuttosport: Ibrahimovic press conference awaited – the big announcement expected

By Euan Burns -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to hold a press conference at Milanello on Thursday in which there should be a huge announcement for the fans to enjoy.

As reported by Tuttosport (via Pianeta Milan), the expectation is that Ibrahimovic will be tasked with announcing Paulo Fonseca as the new Milan coach.

Ibrahimovic is now a consultant for RedBird Capital Group and is the most tangible link between the American owners and the club in Milan given he is very hands-on and commands a huge amount of respect considering his playing career.

The idea is presumably for the fans to respond more positively to an announcement from a favourite like Ibrahimovic rather than from one of the more executive figures.

The appointment of Fonseca will not just be announced, it will also be explained to the fans. The Portuguese coach is tasked with rekindling the relationship between the Curva Sud and the ownership which frayed towards the end of the season.

As well as announcing the coach, he is expected to offer some explanation as to what his new role actually is. It has been clear that he holds more power than simply an advisor, but nobody is certain as to where the Swede’s remit actually starts and ends.

  1. Zlatan will announce that Zlatan is the new Milan coach and that social media post of him on the bench was the clue the everyone missed 😁

How good it will be if Zlatan announces someone other than Fonseca 🙏

  2. “should be a huge announcement for the fans to enjoy.”

    “…for the fans to enjoy.”

A savage take by the author. Ouch.

  3. I wouldn’t call it a ‘big announcement’ but just more of an announcement lol. There’s no changing it, while it’s not what we want for the majority of us all we can do now is back him and support him. I tried getting a different perspective of him from others and they say that he really did turn lille into a team that played beautiful football and raised their level so that can only be positive. Let’s hope that he just immediately gels with milan and it’s a perfect match

  4. Romano Here-we-go’d this. It’s happening unfortunately. Best of luck to Fonseca. i hope he fixes our defense.

  5. This has to be one of the more difficult reads for an article I’ve seen in a long time.

” Ibrahimovic is now a consultant for … the club in Milan given he is very hands-on and commands a huge amount of respect considering his playing career.”
How is he hands-on? In what way?
He has all this amount of respect yet they didn’t bother with his first choice for the new coach. This, after he was apparently appointed as Gerry’s voice while Gerry’s away??….so…they went against Gerry? What’s the real point of his appointment?

“The idea is presumably for the fans to respond more positively to an announcement from a favourite like Ibrahimovic rather than from one of the more executive figures.” So basically he’s what people have thought all along….a figurehead used by owners/management (the real management) as a barrier for discontentment from fans because he was a former player. Right on.

“The appointment of Fonseca will not just be announced, it will also be explained to the fans. ” Why does anything have to be explained to us fans? The management made their decisions, we know they want a change in direction. It’s basically them saying this is the direction. An explanation was perhaps needed when we sacked Giampaolo and hired Pioli because it made sense to do so. Even then they didn’t need to explain lol 😂. Here was an end of an era and into a change of direction, simple.

“The Portuguese coach is tasked with rekindling the relationship between the Curva Sud and the ownership” why is it the coach’s job to do this? The coach is responsible for training and managing the team’ and it’s schedule. He shouldn’t give a rats behind as to the relationship between the owner and the Curva. That’s way outside of his control.

“As well as announcing the coach, he is expected to offer some explanation as to what his new role actually is”. Why? How many articles have this site posted about the clarity of Ibra’s role and we still dont have anything defined. Why does he need to do this at the new coach announcement? Why not ask him throughout the year in regular pressers?
The whole article is so odd. It’s more like wishful thinking/ hoping you’ll get your burning questions answered but in reality the club doesn’t have to do any of it

    1. Man I thought this was about the Fonseca unveiling. Didn’t realize it was indeed a presser from Ibra…solo 🫣. Well then we can after all get all the questions answered then.
Scratch what I wrote then for the most part. But seems even he couldn’t clarify his own role today

  6. Imagine someone as big as, as ambitious as Zlatan has to announce someone like (with all due respect) Fonseca to lead Milan project. Would really love to hear what he has to say about it.
