Mike Maignan was arguably AC Milan’s best performer last night against Bayer Leverkusen, and further good news has arrived regarding his renewal.

Now that the summer transfer window has closed, the Milan management are looking to work on some key renewals and Maignan is right at the top of the list along with his compatriot Theo Hernandez, given both have deals expiring in June 2026.

As Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) report this morning, Maignan refused the initial proposal that had come to him from the directors because it fell below what he wanted from a salary perspective, which is on par with Rafael Leao’s €7m net per season including bonuses.

The former Lille goalkeeper has often shown his worth in the biggest games and the one against Bayer Leverkusen is proof of this. Now, the good news is that Maignan and Milan are in advanced negotiations for the extension of their relationship together.

There is talk of an agreement of around €5m net per year plus possible bonuses running until 30 June 2028. If this were the case, the 28-year-old would become one of the highest paid in the squad, but the last details still need to be ironed out before proceeding with the definitive signature.
