Tuttosport: Milan await official signals as €30m price tag is set for Newcastle target

AC Milan are willing to listen to offers for Malick Thiaw this summer, following what was a season of ups and downs for the German international. Newcastle have expressed their interest and the Rossoneri are awaiting signals, a report claims.

Thiaw struggled this past season and even lost his spot in the starting XI, with Matteo Gabbia performing on a much more consistent level. As a result, the 22-year-old isn’t considered unsellable by the management and if an offer were to arrive, they will make their evaluations.

According to Tuttosport, as cited by MilanNews, Milan don’t need to sell the player and have thus set a price tag of €30m. Newcastle have expressed their interest, looking to bolster their defence, and the Rossoneri are now just waiting for official signals.

Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio both believe that Thiaw could grow a lot still, with undeniable potential, and will thus hold out for a significant transfer fee. The player is also happy in Milano and is eager to prove himself to Paulo Fonseca, the new head coach.

The Journalist Andrea Longoni added to the discussion by stating that Milan only should sell Thiaw if another promising centre-back arrives t o replace him, such as Riccardo Calafiori.

  1. Fact Real Madrid were linked shows he has a lot of talent. I agree he was poor last season but the entire defence was poor. Pioli tactics didn’t help either. With Thiaw & Kalulu we have 2 very good promising youngsters. Ricardo cavaliho is our defensive coach, they will sure improve under him.

    1. I agree! Selling Thiaw doesn’t make sense he is only 22 and still could become a great defender. I think we would regret it in the future.

      1. I disagree. We’d be stupid to turn down 30mil for the gaffe machine when he cost us 8 and is only worth 15. Another poor season and even Newcastle won’t want him.

  2. Absolutely. It has been shown many times that most players need at least one full season to adapt to a new team or league, especially such young players as Thiaw was when he arrived in Milan. And I think it’s too risky to sell a 22-year-old guy with so much promise. I believe he deserves another season with Tomori and Gabbia.

  3. You don’t sell a player with his potential yet. Give him another season with a better tactical coach and with a DM in front of the defense. Selling now is premature and shortsighted.

  4. This amount of money for him is really tempting consider he’s so error prone. But I do understand what others are saying about him still being young. How about this, we sell Thiaw and immediately get Calafiori or Buongiorno?

  5. I don’t understand. Do we want to win now or develop talent? Our own fans can’t seem to decide. We need guarantees from a position like CB, not promise and potential. Any way you slice it buying for 8 and selling for 30 is good business. And for 30m we can bring a CB who can offer more assured performances NOW, not maybe in the future…
