Tuttosport: Milan have big striker signing planned in 2024 with name identified

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking for a striker who can eventually take the baton from Olivier Giroud as the leader of the attacking department, and they have a name in mind already.

According to Tuttosport (via MN24), the name that the Milan management like most is Jonathan David of Lille. With 24 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games last season he took a big step forward, while this year he has scored twice.

Milan have been following David for some time and consider him the ideal profile for their project. The player has ideal characteristics because he is fast, technically good and he is a lethal finisher too. At 23 years old he has plenty of room for improvement, too.

His contract with Lille expires in 2025, but the French club could be forced to sell him to raise cash next summer. He will have a high asking price regardless and there will be competition, but Giorgio Furlani plans to leverage good negotiations with Lille to try win the race.

        1. Pavlidis could have been a good stop-gap for the season but on deadline day they chose jovic probably because it was quickest. However he’s not world class but could be a good backup

  1. I hope they check to see that these linked strikers can play in our system. Being a lone striker in the box isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Does David play with a partner striker? Does he play in a similar system?

  2. See if we didn’t pay their fine for Leao like idiots this summer, thanks to the brilliance of these Americans and Furliani, Lille would have had to do so. They were already strapped for cash this summet. They would have had to sell this player to make up for the extra expenditure from the lawsuit instead of the next one.

We could have used that money they gave them pay their fine to buy David during the summer instead. But idiots in the press say Furliani was a key to unlocking Leaos renewal…he wasn’t, he screwed us out of getting David at a reduced price because Lille would have been forced to sell if we didnt agree to pay the fine for them. They would have been 18 million shorter than they already were going into this season. They would have had to pay Rafael’s fee anyway.

    1. It’s really not sure that Leao would have extended if the fine wasn’t paid, so it was probably the right move.

Lille, as almost every French club, depends of the sale of players every season to close their budget and next year won’t be different. I’m not a fan of David though, he’s missing a lot of chances and he’s scoring a lot of penalties.

      1. I thought they would have entered arbitration or remedials meaning Milan and Lille have to work out a solution between themselves, hence the hefty sell on clause for lower payment

      2. We had no involvement in him leaving Sporting, it was none of our business nor was it our problem.

That was between Lille and Sporting. They had to pay the fine. Not us. We didn’t play a part in them signing Leao or in him leaving Portugal. His agents, lawyers and Lille would be on the hook. If they tried to use this against us in negotiations for an extension, we could sue Lille for damages and Leaos intermediaries.

We buckled and caved like idiots. We hold our ground over 1 or 2 million euros per season and let our best players leave for nothing but then pay teams to save them from problems they created.

    2. If ACM dont pay that fine then leao will find another club that are willing to pay that fine. What can you do if leao refuse extend contract ? Bench him for one year? Bench your mvp in your scudetto winning title ? Chelsea, liverpool, and many rich club will pay that fine if they can get leao free transfer. You blame previous management letting player go free transfer but now you want to make leao go free transfer by refusing to pay that fine? Lille ofcourse will reduce Jonathan David price maybe 10-15m euro and priority ACM in term of respect that ACM pay the fine for leao and release lille from court
