Tuttosport: Milan consider bringing back El Shaarawy on a free transfer – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking for reinforcements on the left wing and Stephan El Shaarawy’s name has emerged as a potential target, a report claims.

El Shaarawy has had a spell at Milan from 2011 to 2015 and Tuttosport (via MilanNews) says a return cannot be ruled out. His contract with Roma is about to expire and for now come on the Giallorossi have not put forward any renewal offers and so the Rossoneri are evaluating the possibility of bringing him back.

He could be the alternative to Rafael Leao on the left, given the increasingly probable departures of Ante Rebic and Divock Origi in the summer window which means Milan need a new players for that role.

The Italian forward is also admired by the management for his tactical flexibility given he can play multiple roles, as well as the fact he would count as a home-grown player which is an added value when compiling UEFA squad lists.

El Shaarawy has never hidden his desire to stay in Rome where he feels great: “After the season and the Europa League final we will certainly sit down to talk about my renewal. The club knows what my intentions are.”

However, Roma have not yet spoken with him and his entourage and so some clubs are keeping a close eye on his situation. In addition to Milan, it seems Inter and some clubs abroad are keen.

  1. He would be a good replacement for Rebic, relieve the load off Leao, and chip in with goals as well. Certainly a useful option to consider from the bench

  2. Whoa, he is only 30!
Actually not a bad option for the LW back-up spot. Free, probably up to 3 mil a year salary, experienced, knows the league and Italian.
Get rid of Rebic, bring in El Sha

  3. Get him!
He will be a useful squad player. Not flashy, but dependable. Milan need players like Pancaro and Favalli in the past.

  4. You guys cursed us on that bonus podcast by mentioning his name! Can’t we do better than bringing back a Roma benchwarmer? He was overrated the first time around. Sheesh.

    1. Would you rather have Rebic on the bench then a cheap freebie that has impact coming off the bench. He has always performed well against Milan in recent times. We do not have a big war chest, so take the useful freebies where you can.

      1. No I don’t want Rebic on the bench. I don’t want El Shaarawy on it either. You’re talking like we’re some mid table club who should be grateful for a 30 year old benchwarmer.

        1. And who do you want for the bench? Will that player want to be on the bench? Mbappe? Some people think players are servants who will just do as they’re told. SES is more than adequate for Leao’s backup, and according to his stats would immediately be the second best winger on the squad.

          1. I assumed it was just the haircut as to why he had so many fanboys but obviously not. Okay, let’s bring SES back if it’ll help you sleep better at night and let’s see what he does coming on against Inter, Napoli, or Bayern in the CL. Jack Sh*t is my guess.

  5. Bring him back. We should never have let him go in the first place. Forget having him as a back up on the left, start him on the right, he can play there too. Great signing if possible.

  6. This Is Milan , el-shaarawy would have been a nice option if we were playing in europa league next season or the europa conference league but we are a champions league side , Rebic needs to leave , I’ll rather have milan bring someone from the primevera if we arent financially capable of buying a leao backup , Daniel did well in that role for spezia this season , we can have three players for that wing Daniel Leao and try to sign someone like Straffeza of lecce who can play on both wings..
