Tuttosport: Milan identify Fofana’s midfield deputy – January move possible

AC Milan added to their midfield in the summer, but there are early signs that the area is incomplete. The Rossoneri have already noticed this, and a deputy to a midfielder has been found.

Throughout the 2023/24 season, Milan’s midfield was scrutinised. Hearing about a cycle became a regular occurrence, and it consumed any chances of the Diavolo ending the season successfully. Injuries, depth, quality, structure. Back to front, front to back, Milan struggled with the same four themes on repeat.

While they are not struggling with those themes again, they quickly could. Suggestions have been in place about a lack of depth within the squad, and in the midfield, it is especially noticeable. Paulo Fonseca, simply put, does not have the profiles to replace the midfield.

This has already been noticed, and with the Rossoneri using the fewest starters in Europe, there is a need to make additions to the squad, potentially as early as January, and a target has already been identified.

In Tuttosport’s report this morning, they suggested that Fofana was slowly approaching his best, but there was a downside to it. The advancement may be rushed. Although he is the perfect midfielder for Fonseca’s system, he is only just returning to 100%, so an injury would be a serious problem.

With this in mind, the report suggested that the club are aware of this issue, and have already identified Johnny Cardoso as a deputy for the Frenchman. A move in January, perhaps, could be on the cards.

    1. Adding to it – Fofana needs rotation. Not sure where they’re at with Musah (or Vos for that matter).

Cardoso comes in and we start hanging the American Flag on the doors singing the Pledge of Allegiance every Monday before training. “Make Milan Great Again” and all.

      1. that’s one way of looking at it… another is that we just keep adding average joes on a random basis until one of them works……like you say Musah, Vos……Eletu

    1. he’s American, lmao… all the motivation Gerry needs… next year sale of Theo and Antee Robinson as sub, maybe also Dest when Calabria deal expires…

  1. I don’t get how Cardoso name is even mentioned as a target when he’s not even playing regularly at Betis. Unbelievable.

These cheap bozos don’t have a clue about building a winning competitive team. They let Tonali and Kessie leave and still wasting money signing useless players like Musah and Ruben Loftus Cheek who can’t play in a 4231 formation.

They should do Milan fans a huge favor and sell the club so we can finally get rid Cardinale, Ibra, Furlani and Moncada.

Then the new owners can hire competent experienced people to manage the club signings and affairs. Smh

    1. based on how things go we’d get even more incompetent owners.
At this point Milan just might be passed around like a village bicycle every 3-4 years

  2. I don’t understand this fake news. Milan haven’t rotated much is a good thing. You should always have your core 11 and subs. When pioli used to change the full starting 11 against a bottom side team when did it ever work out for us? I always remember having to bring on leao and others to try and chase a game back.

Were 6 games into a season so everyone will get their time. We still have musah and loftus to come on as subs as well as bennacer in january

    1. You have your core but also need others to start. Simple rotation changes of 1 or 2 players is needed. Pioli went all out and changed the entire team which was stupid. But swapping a player here and ther to rest everyone is smart.

  3. Acmilan is very foolish now I know Acmilan should sign attacking midfielders we are Here saying rubbish and useless transfer that’s why with all the players no better results at all everything is failure
