Tuttosport: Milan, Inter expected to choose winning design for new stadium by next month

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and Inter are locked in a battle with the City Council over the building of a new stadium and have been for months, but the green light seems close.

Recent indications over the past few weeks and months have suggested that most of the sticking points in talks have been addressed, and now it seems the attention has shifted to which project will win.

Italian firm Manica and American giants Populous are the two competing firms trying to land the project, and according to Tuttosport on Tuesday (via MilanLive) a decision will have to be made by early September on which design they choose.

There are still some steps missing, as the final green light of the City Council is needed. The political and bureaucratic process could take several more months and the final go-ahead may not arrive until next spring.

Of course, there is not only the new stadium involved but an entire redevelopment of the San Siro area. There will be new commercial spaces and also green spaces, with various activities dedicated to the people living there.
