Tuttosport: Milan and Inter to meet Sala over San Siro – why scepticism filters

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan and Inter representatives are set to meet Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala to discuss the future of the Stadio San Siro, but it is not expected to be the most productive meeting.

As has been reported by Tuttosport (via Pianeta Milan), the purpose of Thursday’s meeting is to discuss the restyling project of the San Siro which is being put forward by the municipality to try and stop Inter and Milan from building new stadiums elsewhere and leaving the San Siro deserted.

At the moment, it seems very likely that Milan are going to be heading to San Donato to build their stadium, whilst Inter are looking at moving to Rozzano in the southwest of the city. Both clubs would still be fairly close to one another, but neither will be close to the centre of the city.

Mayor Sala has proposed a fourth ring be built at San Siro, with a large hospitality area being created which would allow more money to be made each game. The project is being headed by WeBuild.

Despite this, Milan and Inter have shown very little interest in the restyling project and it is not expected that a meeting with Sala on Thursday will change that, so Sala may be fighting a losing battle.

  1. So basically they’re suggesting Milan & Inter pay 300M€ for 1-5k more spectators who would bring in maybe half a million euros (or heck, let’s say even a million!) more revenue per each match. The stadium would collapse before that kind of deal would pay the teams back the investment they’d put in.

    Ludicrous.
