Tuttosport: One of West Ham or Barcelona-owned duo expected to join Milan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are battling an injury emergency in the defensive department and they are expected to dip into the market in order to bolster their options, according to a report.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) confirms that Milan will welcome a pair of central defenders in the upcoming winter transfer window and one of these will be Matteo Gabbia, whose early return from his loan at Villarreal is being finalised.

For the other, there are three names marked in red in the notebook of managers Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio. These are Clément Lenglet (Aston Villa, but owned by Barcelona), Thilo Kehrer (West Ham) and Nordi Mukiele (PSG).

Regarding the first two, according to the Turin-based newspaper, Milan seem to have more room for manoeuvre compared to the last few days and the Rossoneri management believe that a loan with option to buy deal could be possible. However, the Mukiele idea is fading.

In any case, the will of the directors is not to wait until the end of the transfer window to sign the new defender, also because the returns of Pierre Kalulu , Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori are still far away. Time is of the essence, therefore.

  1. I actually think that Kehrer is a good idea considering available alternatives and remaining budget. Although something tells me that in summer we will lose someone of trio Tomori Kalulu Thiaw so getting good substitution for them in time is briliant.

    1. I like the Mukiele idea. He plays RB as well (actually, has played more as a RB than as CB in his career). So when the others are back, maybe he could be moved to the right. Calabria is an okay player, but I believe Mukiele would be an improvement. Florenzi should be an emergency option only.
