AC Milan want to sign a balanced midfielder who can give the team a little bit of everything which has led them to three specific names at this point in the summer transfer window.
As highlighted by Tuttosport (via Milan News), the Rossoneri need a player who can add a bit more physicality to the Milan midfield than is currently there, but is also able to help the team in attack when needed and play more than one role.
With so many games each season, it is important for players to not be limited to a single job. Players of this ilk have left in the recent past, namely Franck Kessie, Rade Krunic and Sandro Tonali.
Milan have been linked with three midfielders this summer who would add a defensive edge but have more than just that to their game. The most prominent name is certainly Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, but Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer and Fluminense’s Andre Trindade have also been linked.
All three players are thought to require a similar transfer fee of roughly €25m which means they are all affordable.
The job for Milan now is to decide which player makes the most sporting and economic sense out of the three.
Wouldn’t Milan need a defensive midfielder, rather than all around type? There seem to be already quite a few players in the squad who are kind of just central midfielders, but not really a defensive midfielder, strengthy with good physique and tackling.
They did the same mistake last year and Pioli ended up playing with Krunic, who had less quality than other midfielders but was actually the only more defensive one.
I know it’s early stages still but imo the DM is more priority than any other positions including striker. In some sense with our current team we could “make do” with our strikers for next season (not saying we don’t need a striker). What we can’t make do with is the lack of defence in midfield for yet another year. Each year we’ve been stripped of one of the best defensive midfielder in the team starting with Kessie and even up to this season with the guy who cannot be named. It’s about time we get proper DM. And frankly we need at least two
I totally agree. We need to focus a lot on our defense. For that reason we need muscles and pitbull mentality.

Both Andre and Wieffer get my vote. If that’s 50 (25×2) plus 50 for a striker. I think we’ll be good for the initial 100 investment. Then, we can add more based on sales, loans, etc.
U just suggested a very very good idea, we could take both, it would make sense, and our midfield would be set for another 3 seasons, they are both better than Fofana…

We need also a creative midfielder; we don’t have a midfielder that can make some key passes throw a match.
