Tuttosport: Milan look at Monza goalkeeper as potential Maignan replacement

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan would consider a move for Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio if Mike Maignan ends up leaving the club in the summer transfer window, a report suggests.

As has been reported by Tuttosport (via Milan News), there is a lot of speculation around the future of Maignan given the contract discussions seem to have stalled.

His current deal expires in 2026 which means that the situation is not desperate, but if Milan are to get a representative fee for the Frenchman, this summer could be the only chance to get it if he does not sign a new deal.

The stumbling block is his salary. It would take €7-8m per season for Maignan to sign a new contract, so it is a very complicated, but not impossible, negotiation.

Naturally, Milan have started to put some thought into who could potentially replace a goalkeeper like Milan. They could look at Monza, a club that there are close relations with.

Di Gregorio has become one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the league, and despite being a former Inter player, Milan think he could be signed for around €20m.

He was in the sights of Newcastle during the January transfer window, but he chose to stay and work towards a summer move.

  1. Well better if you are truly want to “trade” Maignan better get a goalie that his team isn’t 12 in the league. Or just renew him he is vital to the team it’s not only GK fault that we are in third place and prolly not even fight for the title. It’s the defence attackers midfield. Management that don’t put real money to bring high quality defender midfield attacker anyone and only want free or at max 20m . This was 16yr ago a lot has changed. PSG Fault Barca Fault City Fault Real Fault Juve Fault Inter Fault whatever but they need to put real money to bring high quality players not bad to mid players with them we aren’t getting any trophy imo.

    1. He’s actually a really competent and consistent keeper, and it isn’t his fault that his team is 12th. He has kept numerous clean sheets. I mean we signed Malick Thiaw from a team that was near relegation.

    2. Team position don’t always show how good a player is.

Just look at Vicario. Last season with him Empoli finished 14th. Yet the scouts knew his quality and Tottenham bought him for 20m. Now he is considered one of, if not the best, GK in Premier League.

Andy Robertson was bought by Liverpool from relegated teams and he was considered one of the best Left Back in Prem.

Roy Keane, from relegated Nottingham Forest to MU. We know how he ended.

    3. Dude what re you talking about? Maignan renewal problem is not solely about his performance but his high demand (higher than Leao) which make the negotiation hard

  2. People forget, we still have Sportiello who is a very good keeper, so along with Di gregario or preferably Carnessechi we would be more than fine to sell Mike, nice 60/70m to bring in Scalvini and Ricci !!!

  3. “AC Milan consider a move for Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio as Mike Maignan ends up leaving the club in the summer transfer window”

There. I fixed it for you.

  4. Doesn’t sound like Milan will renew Mike at the numbers he requests, so if we have to sell him DiGregorio is a fine choice.

In fact I would argue Spaletti should take him to the EURO’s as the third choice GK, after Gigio and Vicario.
