Tuttosport: Milan offered Sheffield United star amid search to complete midfield

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are looking for one more midfielder to complete the department after the signings of Tijjani Reijnders and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and they have been offered Sander Berge.

According to a report from Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan), it seems that the management strongly want to sign Yunus Musah from Valencia before the window closes the negotiations with the Spanish club are not proving to be simple.

The owner of the LaLiga side, Peter Lim, is continuing to ask for a much higher figure than the what Milan are willing to pay and that is why alternatives are also being looked at as well.

In the last few hours the Rossoneri have been offered a player who has been among Milan’s transfer market objectives for some seasons now: Sander Berge.

The Norwegian midfielder was linked with Milan while he was at Genk and he ended up joining Sheffield United. They got promoted back to the Premier League but he could leave given his deal runs out in less than a year and a renewal does not seem imminent.

Berge played 43 games with the Blades last season and racked up 7 goals and 6 assists. Milan are still admirers of the 25-year-old but they have not begun any talks yet, prioritising Musah for the time being.

    1. Agreed, he’s more ready than Musah and he’s cheaper, and he makes more sense for what we need as he’s a physical, engine who can make vertical passes and still be technical

      1. He is also 5 years older, as is Berge. So the “being ready” goes both ways and we already have a few mids around 25 years of age.
Musah has the potential and possibility for value increase on his side, we should try everything to get him before moving on to older players, especially since there are several options unlike with Strikers and RW were options are more limited in the market.

  1. Hjulmand would be better. at least he knows the league + i like the idea of having a Dane “camp” in Milan 😀

  2. There’s no chance of this. Sheffield won’t mind losing him for nothing if it means they stay up and he’s a key part of their team. He’s not going anywhere this summer.

  3. Sheff Utd have limited funds & ~€15m-€20m might be acceptable, if that allows permanent transfer of Tommy Doyle for example, keeping the option of another City player on loan. E.g. McAtee. I think their signing Anis Slimane will mitigate losing Berge, he’s not as indispensable as several other players in my opinion.
