Tuttosport: Milan player ratings for Torino draw – Maignan miraculous; subs provide spark

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan had to fight from two goals down to earn a draw against Torino on Saturday night at San Siro, with two late goals eventually stealing a point.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) has their ratings from the game, starting with Mike Maignan who was ‘miraculous’ at times to ensure Torino only ever led by two goals, and he earned a 7 out of 10.

Davide Calabria (5.5) ‘starting off like a rocket’ but was then ‘replaced amid boos’, while Malick Thiaw (4) scored a ‘clumsy own goal’ and ‘chose to abandon Zapata’ for the goal that doubled the lead for the away side.

Fikayo Tomori was ‘deployed on the centre-right to prepare for Pavlovic’s entrance, he duelled with Zapata and often struggles to contain him’, getting a 5.5. Alexis Saelemaekers (same score) played at left-back to start but ended up in ‘three different positions, perhaps even confusing him’.

Ismael Bennacer got a 5 while Ruben Loftus-Cheek was given a 6 for playing in a ‘new role forces him to run forward less’ but he arguably should have had an assist for Rafael  Leao in the 41st minute with a lovely through ball.

Leao ‘remains the match-breaking element for Milan’ but missed chances that could have made the night more routine, so he got a 5, while Samuel Chukwueze got the same after a difficult night where he struggled to get into the game.

Christian Pulisic (5) was deployed as an attacking midfielder but offered ‘low contribution’ and ‘missed two chances that are not typical of him’. Rating: 5 Luka Jovic (4.5) had ‘a header at the end of the first half and nothing more’.

Tijjani Reijnders was praised for his impact off the bench and providing more incisiveness from midfield, earning a 6.5, while Theo Hernandez was also given the same.

Noah Okafor (7) scored the goal that earned the draw, Yunus Musah (6.5) showed a desire to get on the ball and provided the cross for the 2-2, and Alvaro Morata (7) scored with an Inzaghi-esque redirection.

Finally, Paulo Fonseca (5.5): “The defensive phase did not seem better than Pioli’s. With the substitutions – three out of five are starters – he gets the match back on track and partially saves his debut.”

  1. More realistic rating:
    – Mike 6 (because of 1st goal)
    – Saladmaker 5.5 (decent offensively, terrible defensively)
    – Thiaw 4.5 (had a major stake in both goals)
    – Tomori 5.5
    – Calabria 5.5
    – RLC 5.5
    – Benny 5 (poor midfield coverage as usual for us)
    – Pulisic 6
    – Leao 6 (good game, but inaccurate)
    – Jovic 4.5

    1. Leao 6 you dont know anything. He miss 2 goals and was disaster player at Milan, but you all to scare for that. We need sell him and Jovic.
Okafor is best our attacker but Pioli and Fonseca dont know too much about attacking football at all

  2. Bennacer, Saelesmaekers, Thiaw… these players need to make their exit. They don’t offer anything to this club. Some don’t like that I think Bennacer should leave, but he hasn’t played well for us for a long time.

  3. Hilarious to read all those who said this summer to sell Mike we don’t need him and he’s easily replaced – LOLOLOLO. You know nothing about the game of football.

And even more funny is those that claim we don’t need another striker because we have Jovic – Hahahahahahaha!!!! You also know nothing about the game of football. Jovic is trash as a #9. He is a 2-striker system forward – that is all. Last season the goals he scored came from playing WITH Giroud – not in place of him. Wake up management. We cannot go into another season w one pure #9 in Morata with all the games we play and pray there are no injuries. Horrible.

We are a team of mix-matched players. RLC is neither a DM nor a CAM – and like he has been his entire career – vastly inconsistent. Salad is not a Wing back – he’s a backup winger that is all.

Fonseca??? LOL. Was the same as watching Pioli-ball. Nothing changed. Same problems w the mid and TEAM defending. Fofana and Pavlovic will help – BUT – individual players will not on their own solve our defensive problems. TEAM defending is the problem. Not sure we can play Pulisic as a CAM either as while he did well offensively – he wasn’t good defensively – and the mid got overrun – AGAIN.

Lots of work to do – but Zlatan better not be sleeping on the 7th day – he and Georgie Boy have lots of work still to do. Atalanta signed Samardvić for 22M and we struggle to make one deal and take 2 months to do it LOL. And we aspire for UCL glory???? Ya right

  4. Please Fonseca go after two more games, and help us a lot. Man dont know how lead Milan. Many good couches there,we take loser 🤣🤣
For some who dont like my comments ok let we see at Novembar did he lead Milan.I think we will at midlle table and will lose chaince to knockout CL

    1. Fonseca has no clue what is preparing for him…poor guy…bonera will “do miracles” with Futuro and whil change this guy the latest at mid of the season…

  5. I would normally say that comments like these are reactionary, but Moratas comments make me worry. A striker after his debut, and tge teams first league game saying there needs to be a change in mentality. It is a worrying sign of what the locker room is like under Fonseca. There should be a buzz about with a new manager.
