Tuttosport: Milan ratings for win against Empoli – defensive superiority is clear

By Isak Möller -

Although it wasn’t a spectacular outing by any means, AC Milan did what matters the most and that is claiming the three points. The 1-0 against Empoli puts them five points clear and the defenders deserve a lot of praise.

The Rossoneri were extremely solid in defence as, for example, they only conceded one shot in the first half (not on target). It did open up a bit more in the second half as Empoli eventually got two shots on target, but Pioli’s men did really well.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via SempreMilan) took stock of the individual performances of Milan and it’s clear that the defenders were superior. Maignan and Kalulu were the best at 7, while their defensive colleagues Tomori and Florenzi got a 6.5.

Calabria, meanwhile, got a 6 along with the likes of Bennacer, Tonali, Brahim Diaz, Leao and Giroud. A few players were disappointing at 5.5 and they were Kessie, Messias and Saelemaekers. The latter came off the bench in a period when, to be fair, little focus was on the attack.
